Overall Satisfaction with Scale Computing HC3
We are currently using HC3 as our full stack infrastructure housing all servers, virtual desktops, and sandbox projects. The entire organization utilizes and benefits from it from individual user experience to the technical staff managing servers. As we maintain as lightweight an IT staff as possible this avoids having multiple interfaces or licenses for us to maintain desktops and servers. We don’t experience the complexity or cost that plagues companies utilizing other platforms viewed as “industry standard.” The simplicity of the Scale HC3 infrastructure puts us in a position to focus on more business critical matters than managing servers and desktops.
- High availability is native, automatic, and requires no configuration.
- Support provided by Scale Computing is top notch. I rarely contact them and when I do the phone calls last less than 10min with resolution and in the case of email support not only is there a quick response but they follow up to make sure everything is going well.
- Scale’s HC3 product line removes all of the complex aspects of configuring storage and compute that exist in products like Citrix and VMWare at a much higher value. I don’t need engineers on staff to maintain it because it can be truly a set it and forget it configuration. This makes it a much more valuable option for small to midsize company and for large enterprises offers an enormous savings that can’t be ignored.
- For me personally I’d like to learn more about the API call functionality to increase the hands off options an IT support team could have. (This is more just needing to learn the API’s.)
- More features in virtual networking perhaps a virtual switching within the system as an option.
- Hardware trade-in and upgrade path. (This may exist but just something that is starting to be a consideration for us.)
We run our ERP, QMS, and all virtual desktops and servers on Scale HC3. When adding our ERP it was decided we should add an additional node. We added that node and within minutes the workloads from existing nodes were spreading across the new one as well. The scalability of the HC3 system allows us to change desktop and server workloads at will on the fly and with virtually no interruption to productivity. Users never know when changes are made except for things just keep getting better or faster.
- Our experience on both use and ROI has been positive. We’re able to be more flexible to users needs and have achieved much faster response times when something new is needed. We’ve also been able to focus on our quality systems and customer centric systems instead of maintaining a bunch of hardware and spending hours chopping up luns and configuring what workloads need to be run on what servers.
I evaluated Nutanix, Pivot3, and Simplivity before choosing Scale.
Nutanix failed in the areas of support, cost, and if we were to choose their solution within our budget the scalability was lost.
Pivot3 and Simplivity both failed our requirements because they require VMWare which was an expense we wanted to avoid. And even for companies that have already made that investment stop and give thought to what you’re saving the business with consideration to eliminating that piece.
