ADP Resource

ADP is best if you have a really knowledgeable client rep that has been your contact for multiple sessions. Otherwise, you are forced to reiterate the problems to multiple parties. If you have a dedicated staff member who is knowledgeable of your processes, then ADP is a good resource for payroll needs.

If you are handling a large client list, and are selling services, it is dead easy. If you are managing/selling a physical inventory, it seems like it has great options to do that quite well (disclaimer, I do not use those functions, but I have paid attention as that functionality was built into the software). If you want to link your bank account to a bookkeeping platform, this is not the software for you (at least so far).

Pros

ADP Resource

  • ADP has an easy to read portal that is easy to navigate. The UI is fairly intuitive and as a user I can find the right information quickly.
  • The ADP portal is flexible in the sense that we can change payroll amounts for special circumstances such as a special bonus or special payout. This allows our payroll team to make the necessary changes right away.
  • The reporting capabilities are quite robust and there are many ways to customize reports that we use for finance, payroll, HR, etc.

  • AccountEdge is great for running reports. It allows you to look up information in numerous ways. I like the fact that the Balance Sheet and Profit and Loss reports are interactive so in the screen view mode (as opposed to the printed report) you can easily drill down into accounts and transactions.
  • AccountEdge is also good at creating invoices and statements. Check printing and modifying check layout.
  • The software is quite easy to install and get up and running. The company provides a lot of information on their site, and there is a generous community on their user forum.
  • Reconciliations are fairly easy IF you are not expecting to be able to link your bank accounts to the software. AccountEdge does not do that yet (at least in the US). This is a major flaw in the software--one that I hope is addressed in the very near future.
  • I like that they offer merchant services and point of purchase sales support, but I have no experience in using those capabilities.

  • ADP organization has too many layers and you often have to speak to multiple people to find the right solution.
  • There doesn't appear to be efficient communication between the internal teams at ADP - the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing. Thus, you often have to re-explain your issues.
  • During the implementation of the software, it was not very coordinated. Some contacts were more knowledgeable than others and there was not uniform expertise.

  • CRM, CRM, CRM. Make the CRM stronger. Something like "Chatter" for SalesForce would be a great addition...
  • UI for Windows version. Yuck. Usable, but ugly.
  • Mac Version needs more support. It should be able to handle all of my employees at once.

I have a lot of experience and trust in this software package - actually any software package from ADP. The training that I have gotten over the years has always been complete and the representatives that I have had over the years are all EXCEPTIONAL! Looking back in the 20 plus years of experience, I can say truthfully there are only 1-3 persons who I would rather not have worked with at ADP. I find their customer service, and phone reps do their best to get the job done. This makes my job easier in the process.

AccountEdge Pro & Basic is laid out in easy to use centers which compartmentalize a users needs based on departments. Along with that one can set up recurring transactions for things that repeat daily through annually and anything in between. You can set a preference for automatic posting or a user specific reminder to post the action

One of the finer advantages of desktop software, it's always available. AccountEdge doesn't suffer from outages or sluggish internet like web based applications do. It's always there when you power on your device!

Rarely do we get support due to it costing money. Sell us on a Monthly service, bump up your CRM and Marketing and AccountEdge could easily be getting $2k/ month from us.

Before my time, Uyemura was using ADP Paynet Plus and switched to another software, who shall go unnamed, but it was a complete bust. The taxes were calculated incorrectly on employees who have a car allowance and of course this a very big area for mistakes. We quickly switched back to ADP Paynet plus.

Some of my clients use QuickBooks, some use AccountEdge. Hands down I prefer the user friendliness of AccountEdge over QuickBooks. There is no comparison in the return on profit when having the proper tools to be able to do a task efficiently and quickly. The more time wasted doing simple tasks means more profit walking out the door instead of going into your pocket

Return on Investment

ADP Resource

  • We currently use ADP Resource for payroll and some HR only. We have been approached for the 401k and insurance portion of ADP Resource but we have separate third party administrators for those.
  • The customer service is outstanding. I would not change anything.
  • I understand and agree that the employee's would benefit from viewing and making limited changes to their employee record and this will be approached in the next meeting we have with the president of the company.

  • AccountEdge is useful for running reports for submitting our Tax Returns on an Annual basis. To this end, it saves me time.
  • It is not useful for running reports on the analysis of the state of the company. In general, I find using Excel to be more useful, but probably more time consuming than it would be if I were able to run those reports in a comprehensive Accounting System.
