Likelihood to Recommend Adtran NetVanta series switches are a very desirable switch set at a reasonable price point with a large amount of configuration ability for both L2 and L3. They are best suited for medium to large institutions that are not Cisco Dependent. They work well for small businesses as well but may be too high of a price point and too large of a feature set needed for a SOHO type set up which may turn away customers in that range. The 1531/P series does offer a smaller switch with the option of PoE in the P model and gives a total of 12 individual ports between the 8 PoE ports, 2 non PoE ports, and 2 SFP ports capable of Gigabit or 2.5Gbps with Adtran's interconnect cable. This may be more suitable for a SOHO set up but again may offer more than many small businesses need and may seem daunting.

But we should not use it instead of switch. Because some people tend to use the router instead of layer three suite. So yes, I try to use it.
Read full review Pros In industrial environments, Adtran NetVanta switches are robust and have a very long lifetime. In office environments, Adtran NetVanta switches are low profile and easy to install. Adtran NetVanta switches have multiple options for mounting, racks or wall mount are equally simple and well implemented. Read full review The ISR 4000 is an excellent router for our voice services. We purchased CUBE licensing in order to do this. The ISR 4000 is an excellent router for security purposes as well. We purchased the security license with the router and that allowed us to run a Zone-Based Firewall. The ISR 4000 is very simple and straight forward to configure. Read full review Cons PoE can be a little slow to initiate as the switch communicates with the device to determine the proper power level. 1550 Series seem to come flashed with a non-standard Firmware initially that must be upgraded before any configuration can be done. USB Driver for 1550 Series USB Serial connection is a non-standard driver that must be downloaded from Adtran vs Windows Plug and Play. Read full review A greater number of onboard WAN ports would be an improvement over the model we purchased, which only had two. [This] means we'll have to buy more expensive network cards to get more convenience. The small router was a plus in some branches, but it was a hindrance in others. Its width is about half the size of the rack, so we had to keep it on top of another device. When compared to its competitors, the rack mounting kit is unreliable and expensive to purchase. Read full review Usability Regarding usability, this router has everything you need, except for a good GUI. Of course it can be integrated with other tools, but it lacks any native GUI option. Any engineer who is comfortable using CLI will find all options they need. Routing, security, voice are just examples of all the things you can do with it.
Read full review Support Rating There is always room for improvement with support, but Cisco support has been good to me over the years. Being able to call or submit online TAC cases makes it so I can get my issues or questions answered faster. They have even added the TAC bot for TAC cases to get to support even faster!

Read full review We did not compare the Cisco 4000 Series Integrated Services Routers to other competitors as we used Cisco for a long period of time already. We selected this product as we used a lot of CISCO products in the past and with good support. Other products don't have the protocols that CISCO products have.
Read full review Return on Investment High Performance and reliability have allowed for a 'set it and forget it' type installation, giving greater customer satisfaction. The price point of the switches, while higher than other models such as HP or Dell potentially, is in line with their reliability and functionality and comes in less than Cisco much of the time. Having a long time relationship with Adtran as a company has allowed us to quickly assist customers with their needs, saving everyone time and money. Read full review Can be used for ISE, Meraki access point, FTD firewall, works well, no worry about integration with any third party product. As this device can be multipurpose, ROI is faster and usable for longer period of time, as no EOL any time soon This is an integrated modular device so even if my small offices are closed over a period of time, this can be re-purposed for other requirements within organization This device supports WAN optimization within software. This reduces the requirement of that specific optimization device, which reduces my overall cost for a branch network Read full review ScreenShots
