Amazon Web Services
Amazon Web Services is well suited for companies or organizations that need to run specific applications or virtual services on servers. The cost-per-server ratio makes this ideal for testing and live deployment scenarios. It is especially ideal for smaller to medium size IT development teams. If you are looking to just set up a website, for example, AWS may not be ideal unless you are having it custom built.

Oracle API Platform Cloud
There are countless solutions and needs in the marketplace. Some solutions are straight forward, other highly complicated and innovative. From my perspective, our platform and application is highly complex and innovative, with many "one-off" features.

Pros
- Customer service: There's no beating AWS for their customer service. They've clearly been trained to lisetn to understand the core issue you've called them for. Our customers satisfaction is in direct correlation to what AWS can deliver, so this is the #1 reason we chose and have stayed with AWS for 8 years.
- Agility: We have demand cycles that fluctuate, largely without alot of notice. It doesn't take more than 1 phone call to address any increase in bandwidth. In fact, they're more likely to reach out to us with any enhancements we might need or shoul be considering.
- Performance: We've never experienced a slowdown, nor failure - even when there've been internet-wide issues. They're always innovating based on every customer, and we all benefit from Bezos vision of what infrastructure technology should do for business.

- Oracles Cloud is endlessly variable, and endlessly expandable.
- These are qualities that we needed in our platform. Oracle's Name in business was also an important aspect of our decision.
- The most important "like" is the support. Oracle Backs up its cloud with a technical expertise that I believe is second to none.

Cons
- AWS is really difficult to use if you do not have any training.
- You need to create your own backups. I cannot verify this, but a co-worker of mine stated that he did now create a back, and lost several items.
- It is very expensive for everyday use. AWS is for people that have done the research, and know exactly what they need. These instances are not toys, believe me.

- Planned maintenance. Oracle has certain days it schedules maintenance. We have been speaking with Oracle executives about the inability to schedule maintenance on days that are custom to the client.

Janova was built utilizing the EC2 infrastructure and with Amazon's cost continuing to drop and with the capability to be billed hourly there is no reason to switch to a different platform.

Easy to use/learning curve. If you are new to the use of cloud storage, AWS is your entry point. If you have experience in that field, AWS is the way to go.

Performance
AWS does not provide the raw performance that you can get by building your own custom infrastructure. However, it is often the case that the benefits of specialized, high-performance hardware do not necessarily outweigh the significant extra cost and risk. Performance as perceived by the user is very different from raw throughput.

Alternatives Considered
AWS is usually the most affordable between GC, AWS, and Azure. If I was using a Windows machines only environment, I would go with Azure and for any other setup I would go with Amazon Web Services. For the record, AWS has been around longer than the others too

- For ROI, my advice would be to stay the course. It will take longer than you think and cost more than you expect.
