mParticle
Chose mParticle
mParticle has a bigger catalog of services you can interface with and provides a more complete check for data integrity. It also allows you to use any analytics solution.
Chose mParticle
We are definitely aware of Amplitude CDP and how they are constantly making updates to their CDP to make it better. If their offerings are a lot better than mParticle's, it might make sense to jump ship to Amplitude since we already use them for Analytics anyway.

Amplitude
Amplitude Analytics is well suited for scenarios where you have multiple data points to understand customer behavior and journeys and utilize simple to medium complexity graphs/charts. It may not be suitable for scenarios where you need to slice and dice data into highly customizable dashboards as that requires significant effort from technical teams.

If you can't trust the data you get into your customer journey service or user behavior analysis tool, mParticle can make a difference quickly. We used it to great success getting from untrustworthy data to reliable data in no time. If you already have a great data pipeline or use a user behavior analysis tool that includes checks for ensuring the trustworthiness of data, you might not need mParticle. If you have a lot of external or internal services you need to connect to your customer data, then mParticle is definitely worth looking at.

Amplitude
  • Some more clarity and examples of implementation with GDPR in mind

  • Splicing information inside funnels could be more intuitive
  • User support for the cheaper tiers is hard to access
  • Pricing transparency really needs to be improved

  • Support - often times it feels like they're trying to create a sales opportunity rather than actually provide support - whether it's technical or non-technical.
  • Some connection setups are not as consistent with respect to the procedure of setting up the connection, e.g. setting user identities in Braze.
  • Audiences...definitely not as robust as Amplitude

It's a great tool for beginners but not scalable to advance use cases. It's not it's a fault in our case, because any platform is as good as the data collected

Support Rating
Amplitude
I haven't used the Amplitude support other than their training docs so I can't speak too much to the in-person support but the docs are serviceable. Nothing too crazy but between the user tips, email notifications, and the decent number of docs I was able to get the support I needed to ramp up on the tool.

Superb technical support, always going the extra mile to understand your problem and work towards solutions. Specifically, the team are happy to jump on Zoom to troubleshoot the problem.

Amplitude
It's the best in class with all the bells and whistles. Other options could suit you just fine at a lower price point, but you need to be sure of what you are not getting and the switching cost associated with when you do need it.

  • Negative: Quite a lot overlaps with the work being done on the Data Warehouse as a CDP.
  • Positive: Able to connect to 3rd party tools with small effort (Appsflyer).
