Likelihood to Recommend

dotConnect for Salesforce

Most appropriate when running queries from the client side, as the installation is rather straightforward and reporting is quite transparent, clear, and supportive of decision-making. We have known some extremely seasoned data researchers who had found dotConnect not as sophisticated as they would have liked.

It's well suited when you have large amounts of data with complicated dependencies. JQuery UI would be a better choice if you just need to create simple forms.

Cons

dotConnect for Salesforce

  • Can be slow which may be more due to the many FW issues involved when accessing multiple SQL servers
  • While it was easy for us to use, a few of our client-side Database teams wanted something more robust

Progress Telerik UI

  • Improvement of tools for template management.
  • Make more real code examples available.
  • Having the possibility of relationships between developers from the same country who use Telerik.

In general I am satisfied. Sometimes we had problems with use on new tablet devices with new versions of the operating system.

Very detailed and helpful replies (email) . Responses were under 2 hours in most cases in my experience. Support quality is the best of any organization I've dealt with.

We had been using an outsourced company for such projects until we decided to hire our own team and do all of this DB work in-house. So this was our first year of experience with this product. So far, we're very pleased, as are our clients.

javascript datagrid - This is a pretty lightweight javascript library that takes a database query and converts it into a javascript based grid. The grid has sorting, filtering, and paging capabilities. I prefer the Telerik grid personally once the styling and script files are implemented correctly. The Telerik grid is very flexible in that the data can be consumed from either server side or javascript, depending on the needs of the application at the time. I also like the way most features and functionality in the grid can be just hooked in via properties or events.I will admit, however, that the javascript datagrid has a quick implementation learning curve because it is basically one js file. After that, it is all javascript code.

Return on Investment

dotConnect for Salesforce

  • Immediately positive due to it's being pretty straightforward to install for every level of database staff
  • Immediately positive due to its extremely client-friendly reporting
  • It can be slow, so we have learned to always check the FW first as a rule-out.

Progress Telerik UI

  • If the DOM of your application is heavy then Test studio will create lots of performance issues while recording, like Test studio.
  • The application can sometimes hang.
