MaestroConference

This is best suited for webinars where you want increase participant engagement. Maestroconference has helped us avoid the type of webinar where the presenter has no idea if people are listening and participants often lose interest and end up checking email. The interaction level can become extremely high leading to increased engagement, satisfaction and buy-in.

Zoom Video Webinar

Some specific scenarios where Zoom Video Webinar is well suited would be for group training and presentation meetings. For group training, it allowing participants to ask questions and presenting content without any hiccups. You can gauge the participation level and share content like PDFs/slides/etc. You can also invite additional hosts and have multiple cameras if you have a Q&A style session. I even know of colleges that use Zoom to connect multiple classrooms in different cities together. For presentations with clients/companies - it just works! Any computer with access to a browser can get it to work - no messy configurations or long installs. I can share the zoom link with them and see them in the room within 2-3 minutes. Try that with Skype/GoToWebinar, and it'll take 10-15 minutes of installing, account creation, and other annoying setups. We can whiteboard, draw things out, share a screen with a Google Document... it's great.Zoom Video Webinar isn't a replacement for live training. No technology is.

Pros

MaestroConference

  • The number one strength of Maestro Conference is the ability for the host to create "break out" groups where members of the call can interact with each other in smaller groups as if they were in an in-person conference.
  • Another quality of Maestro Conference that I love is the fact that the host can then "weave in and out" of the different break out groups, listening in, providing support and getting feedback. It's an incredibly tool that Maestro offers.
  • Lastly I think Maestro Conference has excellent customer service.

Zoom Video Webinar

  • Zoom handles multiparticipant meetings very well through a centralized screen that allows you to see all participants, conduct group or individual chat sessions during the meeting and allows anyone to share documents in the meeting.
  • The chat feature in Zoom is very helpful during a meeting for discreetly reaching out to another colleague in the meeting when you want to share verify or validate something before announcing publicly in the meeting. It's great to have sideline conversations that are relevant to myself and another colleague in the meeting without disturbing the meeting.
  • The video features of Zoom are great! Since many of my meetings are conducted virtually, it's nice to see and talk with someone via Zoom's video feature to make our conversations more personal and meaningful

Cons

MaestroConference

  • The call sound quality was often pretty poor, and we had a lot of trouble with calls being dropped. Over the years I would periodically throw in the towel and go back to Free Conferencing just to have reliable quality. But they only have 3 of 4 breakout rooms and I couldn't conduct the rooms easily. Then I try MC again to see if the engineering had improved. It was like a wave. Sometimes better, sometimes worse.
  • The conductor interface has an annoying glitch wherein we could not change a persons attribute fields on the fly. I would interview my callers and assign them to one class or another based on their answers, and the partner up people into breakout rooms based on their answers. This meant editing the two attribute fields , and it just plain didn't work 75% of the time.
  • Maestro Conference repositioned its business away from small educators like me, to large organizations like political action committees. The price became too high for me, and it just no longer made sense. I repositioned my product to work with less expensive and less complicated solutions.
  • The add on features, like recording each conference room, were insanely expensive.
  • VOIP and MC didn't mix. The MC dialer never worked. Neither did Skype. This meant that my international callers were out of luck. This was FRUSTRATING to say the least. Now I just use Skype. A picture is worth a thousand words.

Zoom Video Webinar

  • The chat feature is by far the worst part of Zoom, you can't adjust text size or color or allow for multiple chat room within the same meeting (for groups or breakouts )
  • The Polling Feature could probably use more variety at this time. It def lags behind tools like Adobe Connect there. Also, the creation of Polls during a live session can generally be fairly cumbersome.
  • The 40 minute time limit for the basic account can be a pain point and it seems fairly pointless as a user can just restart the meeting immediately once the time expires. There is probably a more effective way to limit the Basic account for the PRO

we have found no other company with the technology that allows us to conduct webinars with this level of interactivity. We've also been watching as the company has added on addtional functionality and are very please with how it is developing.

We will be renewing with Zoom as long as it continues to meet our needs for client and lead outreach needs in a robust manner. With little error and an easy to use interface, Zoom has met our needs and exceeded our expectations. The cost is right and with a short learning curve, Zoom has been an easy decision to make and maintain.

Alternatives Considered

MaestroConference

Maestro Conference is the only service I know that allows you to create break out groups and allow participants to actively engage with each other and with the host. It is the most like an "in-person" event of any service I have used. And the customer service has always been excellent

Zoom Video Webinar

I prefer Zoom Video Webinar over Skype for three main reasons 1) the user interface is intuitive and easy to use 2) video and audio quality are much better than Skype, and 3) the basic version is free. I find business meetings over Zoom much more enjoyable than those over Skype. The Skype interface changes frequently, and it always takes me a moment to figure out where the screen sharing button is or how to get to the messaging page. With Zoom, however, those features are much easier to find.

Return on Investment

MaestroConference

  • When the monthly call with breakout rooms was working well I had a lot of good conversion. When it was not, because of sound quality of dropped calls, I was giving people a poor experience. Since I was using MC as the centerpiece of my TRIAL calls, it was a two edged sword.

Zoom Video Webinar

  • We have met with and started relationships with many third party vendors via meetings with Zoom Video Webinar. These have all had a tremendous positive impact on our business.
  • All of our remote employees have used Zoom to stay in touch and basically "be present" at meetings for the last couple years. Everyone loves Zoom and realizes its value to our company.
  • Zoom also allows us to stay up to date with all of our other offices around the world. This goes hand in hand with my previous point about remote employees, but it also allows the heads of our offices to meet in person whenever necessary.
