OMS is created for wholesale businesses and is used by many of the companies in our industry. It is apparent that their features have been carefully developed over time to address the business needs for B2B companies. Our company has thousands of SKUs and a unique pricing structure, and OMS was able to handle our unique needs. We would have liked the software to be more modern and to have a better user flow. Importing and exporting data requires a person with experience to handle.

QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise

QuickBooks Enterprise Solutions would be great for a company that is buying products and just reselling them as-is. It is great at keeping track of quantities remaining from previous purchases and time periods, adding new inventory purchased, and subtracting inventory sold. It would also work well for a company that purchased materials to manufacture items for stock, and then sold those stock items. QuickBooks Enterprise Solutions does not work very well for manufacturing of one-off or custom products as each item has to be "built", whether it is 1 item or 100 items. It also does not have an easy way to account for scrap or materials damaged in the manufacturing process.

  • OMS allows wholesale pricing structures. We could invoice based on customer tier/category or by units sold.
  • OMS onboarding was a smooth process. Their team is helpful, proactive and professional. We received live training to our team over 2 days. We had followup questions which were answered by email or phone promptly.

  • Quickbook's user interface is incredibly user-friendly. Non-Accountants are able to pick up the system relatively easy . They should be able to enter transactions without fully understanding the accounting.
  • There is a lot of material on the internet if you need help how to use Quickbooks. They have various forums in which you can find the answers since there is bound to be another person that had already experienced your problem.
  • Quickbooks has developed a lot of integration with other 3rd party software. For example, we use Avalara to assess sales tax for our invoices. There are APIs built so Quickbooks can send the relevant invoice information to Avalara to produce sales tax.

  • OMS software been around for a long time and they have thoughtfully added features for wholesale businesses. However, the software is in need of an update that makes the software easier to use and more modern.
  • The user flow could be improved and the layout could be more intuitive. It is inconvenient to change between modules. It takes time for team members to become familiar with the software.
  • We appreciate the ability to import/export data, however we wish that this feature was easier to use for the team. Currently only a few members with technology experience are able to use the feature.

  • Not Cloud Based: In order to use QuickBooks Enterprise as a cloud based type product one needs to pay for hosting and have the product/data hosted which will run into extra expense. Additionally, this workaround is not a true cloud solution.
  • Operating System Compatibility: When upgrading operating systems on user workstations, more problems are prone to occur. There is sometimes a disconnect between Microsoft and Intuit in compatibility.
  • Expensive Upgrades: This is not the type of accounting product that you can easily use for years without upgrading. Thus, one needs to build this into their operating budget.

I like the overall functionality of the program and I am very familiar with the user interface which makes my job easier. One of the things I dislike about the online version it is not modeled after the desktop edition and I have a hard time getting around in the program.

We highly recommend OMS because of their customer support. When evaluating their software, we had a sales associate and a programmer walk us through the software and answer questions. They allowed us to demo the software at our offices. During onboarding, we received live training form a knowledgeable team member. We were happy that phone calls were always answered quickly. In fact, they reached out to us multiple times to make sure that we were set up and happy.

Very rare do I call the Quickbooks Enterprise Solutions support staff and I get a customer service associate quickly. On average, my wait time is near an hour, and at times even longer. After spending the first three minutes discussing my problem, they then begin to poke and prod around, sometimes the questions continue. But 80% of the time, the problem is over their head and they have to escalate the issue. The only problem is this escalation arrives usually after spending forty-five minutes poking and proding around but learning nothing. In short, my experience is rarely all that well, let alone great

In our search for inventory management software, we read reviews online and set up demos with many companies. We were open to trying retail focused software liked Vend because they were modern and cloud based. TradeGecko was a viable option, however lacked all the features we needed for our unique wholesale business. We migrated to Cin7 for 2 years but were unhappy with their server down time, their customer support and the subscription fee change. Ultimately we came across OMS because other people in our industry recommended OMS and found that OMS addressed our wholesale businesses needs.

Also considered Sage MAS products, but QuickBooks is easier to install and maintain. It also has a more friendly and easier to use interface which keeps employees happier and spend less time training. The reporting is also more flexible and can drill down to the source transaction with a few clicks of the mouse.

  • OMS reduced invoicing errors by allowing us to sell based on wholesale units, like cases or pallets.
  • We previously used cloud based software where we experienced downtime and could not create invoices. We do not experience any down time with OMS.
  • OMS is purchased as a lump sump 1 time payment, so we are not surprised by any pricing changes. However we incurred the cost of setting up a server and backing up the data.

  • It has been very inefficient around budget time between August - March.
  • It is fairly efficient when it comes to entering revenue and expenses, except that certain invoices are entered in Excel spreadsheets first to obtain department allocations.
  • It has slowed down the month-end report generation due to having many of the reports created in Excel from reports / information exported from QuickBooks.
