Overall Satisfaction with QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise
I manage the accounting for 14 companies and foundations. All payables, receivables and accounting is done through QuickBooks.
QuickBooks makes accounting and audit preparation very simple and straightforward. It is easily customizable for each different company. Cash management is also very easy using the registers and the hundreds of customizable reports generated monthly and annually.

Pros
- Processing payments is easy with memorized transactions and last entered detail
- Vendor history is easily accessed on demand
- Customizable reports serve the trustees well
- Annual audits are quick and easy with everything in one place
Cons
- The software becomes "cranky" more often than I would like. A quick data scan on the server usually helps, but if I am out the staff get pretty stressed.
- Record Retention is not working with QuickBooks. Should there be legal action requesting records for 20 years ago the records will be there - not advisable.
- Upgrades are quite time consuming as I have to "touch" every computer using the software.
- Trustees of the foundations can glean the value of contributions from the customized reports
- Authorized staff have immediate access to the data when needed
- The software is easy to learn so training new staff takes less time
The foundations have grown a great deal over the last few years. QuickBooks reports can be easily generated to show giving trends for assessments of future giving capacity.
The Chart of Accounts was overhauled recently. QuickBooks made the transition easy so that we can generate current reports with the new codes while storing all of the old data.

I started using QuickBooks at my prior agency I created. It is so easy to set up a new company using the step-by-step instructions. It is great that changes to the setup can be made fairly easily as we don't always know exactly what we want the software to do in the beginning.
QuickBooks provides everything I need to manage 14 companies and foundations. Audit prep is pretty painless each year.
