Arena Solutions - a great fit for a startup
Implementation took a while, but it was a good process. You are assigned a "solutions architect" who will train you on configuration and help with your configuration and document upload process. We had a great working relationship, but the weekly cadence of the meetings may not have been speedy enough for us and probably delayed our launch somewhat.

Arena is a great and easy to implement PLM system
I worked for Arena as an SA 13 years ago, so I had prior experience implementing it. As well as having years of experience implementing agile PLM. I have now implemented Arena for three business units at Novanta, as well as assisting in data cleanup and re-engineering with one other BU. I find Arena very easy to implement, and the implementation team at Arena is extremely knowledgeable and easy to work with.

Good for Product Life cycle Management
I do not have information.
I wasn't involved.
Arena is maintained by one person. It is so difficult to get new younger staff to use it, and we all keep shortcuts and help each other, because this software is excruciatingly maddenning. It slows down all our work and does not speed up any of our functionality. We address it at the very end of our project because we have to, not because we feel this in any way makes our life easier.

Although not on the implementation team directly I was involved in testing and evaluating as a producer of documentation. The experience was enjoyable as Arena was easy to learn and had the capabilities we need.

It takes a while to implement and upload each file one at a time. You have to enter in each BOM item, upload each file, and type in each supplier detail separately.

Arena in a small company environment
It took quite a lot of work to implement Arena. We rolled it out in a gradual process so folks could become accustomed to it over time. It is very different from the system(s) we used previously--which did not actually accomplish all the things Arena does. At the same time, Arena is not really an inventory tracking system, so it is one tool that fits into the set used to manage a business like ours.
Defining all the custom items we needed took a lot of time. And getting Attributes to a correct a usable state is still a somewhat on-going task as we become more familiar with Arena, and as our needs change.

Arena Review for a Startup company
It was pretty easy to deploy actually. Once a BOM is released, our purchasing manager quickly goes over the order and starts ordering parts for the assemblies.
A helpful feature though would be linking to vendor websites directly for purchasing. It would be easier and quicker for our purchasing team to place orders and quickly get in and out of BOMs.

Great for static-engineering/manufacturing processes, not so much for rapidly changing prototype environment.
Easy to deploy. Very useful that the full service is online and not dependent on a local system. Very nice for our engineers around the world to log in and have access to the latest BOM changes.

Arena: An Auditor's Dream
I have implemented Arena at companies and I have had to reconfigure implementations at other companies. I must say that for me (and I'm not a programmer by any means) it was very easy and straight forward. Always on time and the implementation team was always very helpful. We recently integrated Arena to our ERP system and the feedback I get is that it's always easier to work with the Arena team as they are very knowledgeable and helpful.
