I would not make any changes. This was the right product for our needs as a small business. I did a price and functionality comparison between a few products, especially Adobe, and Tungsten Power PDF was capable of all the things we need to be able to do on a daily basis.

We likely wouldn't be based on the positive experience we've had. There are very few products that we've invested in over the years that we've gone on to use for an extended period of time. Power PDF is one of 3 such software tools that I can say that about.

Kofax PDF is a solution for professionals and corporate users. However, I purchased one for my personal use at home too, and I think there is no better pdf software for private users too. I noticed that various reviews available at the time on the web missed out an important point - Kofax PDF is in no way hard to use nor does it require any special skills to use and, therefore, should be recommended for home use too.

I would try out a couple of other programs, but at the time (when DC first came out) there were not that many good alternatives. I did try out one other program at the time, but this product was superior to it. Since it has been several years, I have looked at the occasional competitor, but remain happy with Power PDF. Just opening up Acrobat Reader irks me, with their menus being completely hidden and a request for money.

Our evaluation process is pretty straightforward. We test in a real-life scenario trying the things we do every day. If we changed anything about our selection process it would be to deeply evaluate the more advanced features and knowledge base on how to implement those features. While the price is very reasonable, it is not a major factor in our decision making, the time savings and product features are the most important things we look at.

In the past, I have evaluated the software basing on:
  • How User Friendly is the software;
  • Its ability to combine/split PDF and organizing documents ; and
  • Price.

New Additional Criteria:

1. How good it is in OCR and data conversion;
2. Commenting function;
3. Potential Elaboration between users;
4. (For Accountant only) - How easy it is to add tickmarks (e.g. check mark) on the document for working papers.

The selection process wouldn't change other than running the data conversion to see if there is significant improvement. The better it is, the more time we can save when exporting/importing large sum of data.
