AppRiver is a versatile solution that addresses various needs for companies and organizations. One key use case is its ability to provide company-wide inbound email filtering, effectively quarantining suspicious emails. This feature ensures that employees and users are protected from potential email threats and allows for a safer email environment. Another important use case is the filtering of email for both the company and its Managed Services Clients through AppRiver SecureTide. This effectively stops the majority of spam and summarizes questionable emails for review by end users, reducing the risk of malicious content reaching the recipient's inbox.

For businesses looking to resell Office 365 and encrypted email services, AppRiver is an ideal choice. It simplifies license management for Microsoft products, ensuring that licenses are assigned and removed appropriately without any hassle. Additionally, AppRiver serves as a cloud-based solution across multiple locations, providing a reseller with collective experience and support.

AppRiver proves to be valuable beyond just email filtering and Microsoft products. Users appreciate its intuitive interface that simplifies management, reducing the amount of basic user support required. Its support team is highly regarded, offering thorough guidance during implementation and assisting with various tasks. Moreover, AppRiver enables users to enhance their offerings by deploying and managing Microsoft Office products and other cloud and email solutions. Overall, AppRiver is a trusted solution that solves a range of problems such as spam filtering, email encryption, license management, secure file sharing, archiving, and more.

Useful Daily Quarantine List: The daily quarantine list emailed to users has proven to be a valuable tool for staying organized and ensuring the validity of suspicious emails, according to many reviewers. This feature helps users efficiently manage their email flow by providing a centralized location for reviewing and releasing potentially harmful messages. By allowing users to proactively verify the legitimacy of quarantined emails before release, it adds an extra layer of security to their communication workflow.

Multiple Email Filtering Options: Users appreciate the ability to filter emails in various ways, including by domain, email address, or text. This versatile filtering functionality enables users to easily sort and prioritize their incoming messages based on specific criteria. Whether they need to focus on certain senders or search for specific content within their inbox, this feature allows for efficient email management and quick access to relevant information.

Effective Link Protection: Users highly praise the inclusion of link protection as one of the newest options in AppRiver's services. With increasing concerns about phishing attacks and malicious links, this feature provides peace of mind by safeguarding users against potential threats. By scanning and analyzing URLs embedded in emails, it actively prevents users from accessing harmful websites that could compromise their security or privacy. This additional layer of protection is considered invaluable by reviewers who rely on AppRiver's services for secure communication.

Difficult Mail Rule Setup: Setting up mail rules in the software has been challenging for users due to the absence of operators to filter emails based on multiple criteria. Some users have expressed a need for the ability to filter emails based on both subject and header information.

Inconvenient Billing Process: The billing process is found to be inconvenient by several users as it is not integrated into their PSA tool, ConnectWise. They suggest that integrating billing into the PSA tool would make it easier to manage and track billing for Office 365 clients.

Complicated Microsoft 365 Tenant Setup: Users have mentioned that the setup of a Microsoft 365 Tenant in an automated manner lacks streamlining and room for improvement. They suggest that making the user interface more user-friendly would simplify the process.

Based on the user reviews, there are three common recommendations for the product:

  1. Consider AppRiver for simplicity and ease of use. Users highly recommend AppRiver for its user-friendly interface and straightforward implementation process. It is praised for offering an easy-to-use solution for antispam and antimalware needs.

  2. Look elsewhere as the product is just okay. Some users express that the product is average and suggest exploring alternative options. The product's performance might not meet the expectations of these users, prompting them to seek alternatives.

  3. Explore more expensive options with additional features. Some users mention that there are pricier alternatives available that offer a wider range of features. These users believe that investing in a more feature-rich solution could provide better protection against malicious actors.

Overall, while many users highly recommend AppRiver for its simplicity and ease of use, there are also suggestions to look elsewhere due to average performance or consider more advanced options.

We reseller exchange email services from Microsoft through AppRiver. This includes domain emails, exchange, and 365 apps.
  • You can see all the customers when you login
  • The have a chat bot
  • You can pay with a check
  • They are extremely difficult to get a hold of for support
  • The product list is confusing, you have to know exactly what you are looking for
  • The sales department is not always available
Recently: a new customer needed 15 addresses, including 365 and Exchange lite. I called Appriver to go over pricing - no response. I did chat with technical support who explained how to set up things but referred me to sales first. I've been waiting for sales to get back to me for over 2 weeks.
Since they changed to Zix, support is not as good as it once was, there are a lot of "we will get back to you" statements. But I always get an email to rate the technician, not the company.

AppRiver allows us to enhance our client offerings by becoming partners in deploying and managing Microsoft Office products (as well as a host of other cloud and email offerings).
  • Knowledgeable engineers
  • Strong product offerings
  • Strong margins
  • The management portal is dated and is at times clunky and confusing.
AppRiver is well suited to managed service providers seeking to enhance their breadth of cloud services.

All employees at the company are using AppRiver, and a previous employee suggested it to us. Email threat prevention, secure file sharing, email encryption, and email archiving are all included in our subscription. On the compliance front, the addition of an alternate channel of business communication to the archiving contract has been huge assistance.
  • Adding and removing users from the database is a simple process.
  • The archive/filtering mechanism for reports, etc., is very reliable and does all we need it to.
  • Exceptional customer service – rapid response times, attentive and helpful support staff.
  • Updates, user license additions, and other modifications might be slow to take effect and prone to glitches.
  • Setup of a Microsoft 365 Tenant in an automated manner.
  • The user interface may be streamlined and made more user-friendly.
AppRiver is the platform we use to manage all of our employees' email accounts. I'm the administrator and use AppRiver to handle all accounts. Aside from updating licenses, I've used AppRiver to introduce a new line of business by adding a new server/domain to our existing AppRiver package, which I do on a weekly basis.

We have been using AppRiver for Hosted Exchange as well as secure email for over a decade. We have 7 users who all use AppRiver remotely from their home and we have dozens of clients who are also using AppRiver for encrypted email and hosted exchange services. We recommend it to all our clients.
  • Customer Service
  • Encrypted email
  • Hosted Exchange
  • Better portal for admins
  • Better training for end users
Ideal for all our clients as they all need a HIPAA-compliant email solution.

Zix is being used across the whole organization and was recommended to us for use by a former employee. We are currently subscribed to email threat protection, secure file share, email encryption and archiving. We are in the process of adding an alternative method of business communication to the archiving contract which is very helpful and puts us at ease on the compliance front.
  • The user database is easily customizable to suit what we need
  • Keywords to detect what should be encrypted
  • Archiving system/filtering for reports, etc. is robust and practically functions to do all that we need
  • Customer Service--- specific to turn around when submitting a ticket
  • Perhaps more training for client use whether that be in person, video links, etc.
Zix has so far been a great choice for our compliance needs. I have no complaints other than the turnaround time to get a ticket addressed.

We use AppRiver to support all employee user email accounts. I am the admin and manage all accounts through AppRiver. I typically use it weekly to add new users, remove users, update licenses, and most recently, to add a new line of business so we added another server/domain within our existing appriver package. The support team was extremely thorough and helpful - from step by step on appriver to Office 365. They walked me through the process and helped me implement new users in our new company as well as for distribution groups, members on lists, adding secondary email accounts to current profiles for my teams.
  • Customer support - very quick response times, very helpful, patient support team
  • Response follow-ups - they will walk through any support needs and follow up with a guide on how to that you can share for your teams to reference
  • User interface can be simplified and more user friendly.
  • When making updates, adding user licenses, making changes it can take a bit for them to work and can be glitchy.
  • Managing user email accounts, new, existing, removing
  • Adding or updating user licenses for Office 365
  • Support for Office 365 apps, install guides
  • Support guides for company teams to be able to work remotely and still reference the guide to implement new accounts, update their apps, etc.

We currently use AppRiver across our whole company as well as a dozen other brands we own and operate. We use it primarily for Office365 (Now Microsoft365) with our domains for hosted email, MS Teams, etc. Using AppRiver as our Microsoft365 provider has dramatically simplified management and love that fact that they offer support for all users. This has helped us to offload the amount of basic user support we have to offer to users of the applications.
  • User provisioning
  • End-user support
  • Simplified billing
  • Better technical support for Office365.
  • Having agents able to assist with Azure AD.
  • An automated way to sign up for and setup a Microsoft365 Tenant.
AppRiver is great for both small and large organizations. Small businesses are unlikely to have much if any technical support staff available to them, for which AppRiver would be a great help. Likewise for large companies, having AppRiver can save your tech support team from dealing with basic, common, and repetitive application support, and allowing them to better focus on more important tasks at hand.

AppRiver provides our work email accounts. We have approximately 20 full-time employees and over 1200 Independent Contractors who use these email accounts.
  • Tech Support
  • Implementation
  • Technical Rep turnover: I've had 2 in the last 6 months and the last one is just temporary
AppRiver is very responsive to our needs for technical support. It would be nice to have an account rep that stays with the company long enough for me to get to know them.

AppRiver is the business we use to utilize Office365. They are who we purchase our license from and they also provide our email virus and spam protection. It is used across the whole organization, which consists of 2 manufacturing plants-- one in Memphis TN and one in Olive Branch MS. AppRiver is intuitive and will add the appropriate licenses for Microsoft products that are assigned to our users, while at the same time removing a license if I unassign one. This makes license management a lot easier and ensures that we aren't paying for licenses that aren't being used.
  • Live Support. Their support techs have always been curious and professional. If you do have to leave a message they return your call and address your problem quickly.
  • Easy to understand English-speaking techs.
  • I feel like I get a good amount of service for what we are paying.
  • Really haven't had any cons. Being picky, I guess the web site is a little dark in color but like I said that is if you want to be picky.
If you are looking for a spam filter or a way to easily manage your Office 365 license, I recommend taking a look at AppRiver.

  • fairly easy to navigate

We use their SecureTide product to scan inbound and outbound email for SPAM email for all of our employees. The product works great and keeps SPAM (suspected and actual) from even reaching our facility. Customer support is top-notch. My Account Rep there really seems to understand my needs.

I use AppRiver for my customers' Office 365 licenses.
  • Tech support quality.
  • Tech support speed (Talking to a person within 1-2 minutes).
  • If support is outside their scope they will send a link to helpful info or point you to the right direction.
All of my customers are very small (1 user - 35 users) so that's my only reference. In that situation, it works well.

Previously, we were using on-prem Windows SBS 2011. It was time to upgrade and we needed to move to a cloud-based solution that wouldn't break the bank. After talking to other AppRiver users and extensive research we decided to use AppRiver across all four locations in the Gulf South.
  • Tech support is always available.
  • Phone is always answered by a person and not automated.
  • 99% of time problem is fixed over phone.
  • Offer a wide variety of services at affordable prices.
In our case, it was a choice of replacing aging server hardware and all the associated licensing with it or move to the cloud. Our office had recently endured a flood in south Louisiana, and years before that, hurricanes. It was time for a permanent fix to all the natural disasters that seemed to be occurring more and more often. Moving to AppRiver and O356 was an easy decision.

Our IT suggested we migrate our emails to Microsoft, so we started utilizing AppRiver when we migrated the whole company. We have had so much negative feedback regarding Microsoft Outlook that we've created another domain and moved 80% of the staff to the new domain email system. Only a select few are with the original domain until we have time to figure out how to migrate them out. But this is a Microsoft issue, not an AppRiver issue. AppRiver is easy to use and the staff very helpful.
  • Great Customer Service
  • Easy and clear user interface
  • Color scheme is rather dark/bland after you login, not a fan of the big grey strip.
  • Very confusing on the plans. We only pay for emails but have to click the 365 essentials and there's no explanation that you're not paying for the entire 365 package. Had to call IT a couple of times on setup as wanted to make sure to get the correct plan.
  • Explanation pop-ups when you hover over options would be very helpful.
AppRiver is easy, simple, and has great customer service. I've only used it for Microsoft emails, which we hated and are trying to get out of, which will not be easy as we will have to migrate the emails again.

We use AppRiver to filter email for our entire organization. The idea is for it to block spam and other less desirable emails from reaching our users' inboxes. In our situation, we have it filter mail outside of our network (using their cloud service), and then it's passed along to our Office 365 instance.
  • Catches the majority of spam
  • Allows users to manage their own quarantines
  • Good customer service
  • Not 100% effective finding a significant number of false positives
  • Feels like the technology stack is outdated
  • Reporting false positives is lacking
  • Reporting messages that slip through has little feedback just a forward to an address
I'd recommend AppRiver for people who manage and or self-host their own mail server and for whom it's useful to have a service to hold mail offsite if or when their internet connectivity or server goes down for whatever reason. It seems that the filtering is rather basic from the standpoint of filtering out more advanced spam and even some basic spam. Rather than re-training rules, the service requires the use of whitelisting which is less than ideal in the sense that someone who's been whitelisted (a domain, an IP, or a specific email address) may become compromised in the future, leading to a raft of spam breaching your defenses.

We use AppRiver as our first stop for Microsoft/email/cloud base services. We find that when we use cloud services we want to have a reseller involved as a first point of contact. We are a small organization and using a reseller that supports thousands of customers gives us the benefit of their collective experience across all their customers. We vastly prefer calling a reseller that is engaged and wants to keep our business to having to call the actual service provider themselves.
  • AppRiver always answers the phone immediately and quickly connects me with an easy-to-understand support professional.
  • AppRiver has competitive prices on all their products.
  • AppRiver is quick to let me know about promotions I may qualify for.
  • There are products I wish AppRiver offered that they don't.
  • Not all of their products are the best-in-class offering.
For all small businesses with in-house IT or even MSPs, we need more expertise than one in-house IT pro can provide. Having an organization like AppRiver gives a small business the ability to consult with someone who has experience managing that product or service across thousands of seats, not just the couple dozen that a small business may need. For an enterprise sized business, with multiple layers of in-house IT Support, AppRiver might not be worth any additional cost.

AppRiver is used for SPAM filtering, email encryption, and Office 365 resell.
  • AppRiver has an excellent technical support department to work with.
  • AppRiver provides great support when transferring new clients in from other email providers.
  • Account managers are slow to respond or unresponsive. This creates a great deal of frustration.
  • Account requests or questions are typically unanswered.
  • Glitches with the Office 365 tie-in through the AppRiver control panel can be annoying.
AppRiver does a great job of making sure the products they provide work, and I know how to make them work if there are problems. Getting my clients into their system is about as easy as I can imagine it could be.

We use the platform to remain HIPAA-compliant in our email correspondence with patients and other providers in the community regarding patient care. All staff, both clinical and administrative, utilize the secure email platform.
  • email tracking for accountability
  • integrates well with our email system (Outlook) - accessibility
  • tech support or technology glitches are common
  • the add-on for Outlook, though convenient, does slow Outlook down and often causes Outlook to crash
I think AppRiver is well suited for all purposes needed in our office. We are able to communicate easily and securely with patients, feel confident in the impacts AppRiver has on our risk management/analysis, and we love that we can track emails and recall them when necessary. It is very helpful to have the tracking feature for accountability when it comes to scheduling and providing billing estimates via email to patients.

AppRiver has been our Microsoft 365 provider for over three years now. They provide our email, cloud file sharing, and application solutions. AppRiver provides the best support of any similar provider I have used -- very accessible, polite, professional, and available 24/7. I appreciate the human contact. AppRiver feels like part of our team.
  • Knowledge - their support specialists usually know the answers... and when they don't, they will work to find them.
  • Support - support specialists are genuinely interested in helping us find solutions to any problems with Office 365.
  • Reliability - no matter what time you call or who you talk to, you're going to get great service. Their training must be terrific.
  • AppRiver was recently purchased by a larger company. I was concerned that their excellent support would decline, but so far, they're going strong.

We use AppRiver as our Office 365 supplier. This service includes the full Office suite, email services, Sharepoint, Microsoft Teams, Visio, and everything else O365 has to offer. With the explosion in remote work, we were even able to add on the conferencing option to our Microsoft Teams deployment to give our remote users a dedicated conference line. These services are being used company-wide. They even offer additional email security protection on top of the Microsoft filtering giving us additional controls and safety.
  • Top notch customer support.
  • User friendly customer portal.
  • Non-pushy sales tactics.
  • Expert product knowledge.
I believe anyone looking for hosted email services or Office 365 for their organization, should look at AppRiver. They are a middle man between you and Microsoft. AppRiver is my focal point for most of my Windows applications, mainly Exchange and the associated licenses. Any issues that I encounter using Microsoft products, they address (even though they mainly handle my email account management). We use their services across the entire company and they have provided me with a better sense of direction when it comes to planning or upgrading users.
  • INCREDIBLY pleasant receptionists.
  • They are excellent listeners
  • They provide short concise suggestions and solutions to my problems.
  • They are always available and willing to help.
  • There after hour service should remain local rather than overseas.
  • Possibly have dedicated support reps for each company.
AppRiver comes across as an extremely professional organization and provides a real sense of security in times of uncertainty. We are an outsourced IT company and we are currently using AppRiver as the Office365 provider for a couple of our clients. Here are a few of the reasons we prefer AppRiver over other O365 providers:
  • Great Support!!
  • I always get through to support very quickly (within a few mins).
  • English speaking techs that are easy to understand.
  • Knowledgeable techs that can answer or assist me with my issues or can quickly escalate to someone who can.
  • My end users can call them directly, meaning faster resolutions for them, and fewer support calls to me.
  • Always have the right number of Licenses! If configured, when licenses are unassigned, AppRiver automatically removes them so that you're not paying for licenses you're not using.
  • Fast response to support calls.
  • Knowledgeable, easy to understand English speaking techs.
  • Automatic removal of unused licenses so that you never pay for unused licenses.
  • We had an issue with bills coming to us instead of going directly to the client that took a little longer to fix than we would have preferred.
  • It would be nice if the bills included the domain name. When I was receiving my client's bill, it was difficult to tell which domains the bill was for.
  • Cost a little more than from Microsoft directly.
Their support is head and shoulders above most companies in the industry!
