Overall Satisfaction with Astra DB
Astra DB is a versatile database service built on Apache Cassandra. Someone who has knowledge of Cassandra will have a smoother experience with Astra DB. If you know Cassandra in and out, Astra DB should be the choice from all of the fully-managed, cloud database services out in the market. The interface on this one is much simpler though.
- Helps in harnessing real-time data for further services.
- Astra DB supports CQL.
- Suits well with high scalability demands.
- Will be a bit difficult for someone who doesn't know CQL.
- Complex queries will be a challenge to perform.
- Will take some time to get used to if you're new to distributed systems.
- Being familiar with CQL, the learning curve was reduced, saving a lot of time.
- A flexible nature helps in balancing data consistency well.
- Handling tasks like backup, scaling and patching on its own reduces the burden from the team.
Being familiar with CQL gave us an advantage of time as it reduced the learning curve and helped a lot in managing the services. Also, it helped in reducing costs as it is a very efficient and scalable data management solution.
Since I was familiar with CQL, choosing Astra DB was the only smart choice for me. It is equally capable as all the other cloud-based fully managed database services currently out in the market. It provides very good documentation also for people who are new to it, making it easy to use.
