Overall Satisfaction with Avalara

We resell Avalara AvaTax for integration with Microsoft Dynamics GP for Sales Tax calculation. It provides our customers with sales tax state returns, reports, and tax calculations across many states.
  • Calculate sales tax across multiple localities.
  • Integrate with GP (accounting software).
  • Prepare sales tax returns.
  • Timeliness of customer support.
  • Including customer's ERP partner in communications.
  • Taking support requests from ERP partner on behalf customers.
  • AvaTax has considerably reduced the amount of time my clients take to complete their monthly tax returns
  • AvaTax has considerably reduced the amount of time involved with keeping the tax rates updated inside clients' ERP software.
Over the last two years, Avalara has greatly improved its implementations and communications with my clients. Initially, the clients were frustrated with the hands-off approach, but I think that better communication around that has made a big difference. They have also made more of an effort to include the ERP reseller of the client, who often has a better understanding of how the client uses the software.

It was not difficult to achieve. The data settings requirements were clear and quick to implement.
I think the tax calculation time is fast. I like the interface screens that break down the tax calculations with rates and municipality information.
My clients use the returns and CertCapture features. They have found it to be very useful and time-saving. CertCapture has also helped them organize their exempt customers.
Our other alternative was to manually set up tax rates and schedules inside the software.
Well suited for any business that processes invoicing transactions in their ERP, especially when taxes need to be collected. I haven't found any situations where it is less appropriate unless no sales tax is required.
