Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Currently using Avalara to calculate sales tax on orders. We also use CertCapture to store our certificates and communicate with our customers when they expire. We also use AvaTax to reconcile and file our returns for 12 states. Since we started using Avalara products it has made it easier to collect certificates and and be more accurate with collecting sales tax.

Pros and Cons

It is very easy to pull up certificates when needed
The filing process is much quicker

Support is one of the biggest issues in Avalara. Contacting support usually takes about 45 minutes to an hour.

Return on Investment

The filing process has been shorter now that we have Avalara.

Mainly because when we have questions it is very difficult to ask support because we do not have the time to sit waiting for 45 minutes.

Additional Capabilities

We have benefited from Avalara's variety of products. I work mainly with CertCapture and it makes it very easy to respond to customer questions when sales tax is calculated or not calculated

Alternatives Considered

Never used any other product. I believe Avalara does the most important thing by calculating tax as accurately as possible which is setting us up for a win if we ever get audited

Likelihood to Recommend

Avalara is very helpful when a customer has a certificate for one state but then they have an order for a different state. Avalara calculates tax more accurately. It is a struggle for our company when a customer has a certificate and we cannot add sales tax to an order when they ask to be charged.
