Overall Satisfaction with Avalara

We are using Avalara to calculate sales tax in the USA and GST/HST/QST taxes in Canada. We also use it to store customer exemption certificates.

Pros

  • Calculate sales tax.
  • Store exemptions.
  • File our tax returns on time.
  • Send a lot of emails.

Cons

  • Returning calls.
  • Providing customer support.
  • Provide more webinars.
  • Time spent filing amended returns.
  • Failure for them to call us back.
  • It's great, they file our returns on time.

It's user friendly for basic operations.

Yes. They file our returns and store exemption certificates which is useful. Their professional services are overpriced, i.e. it costs 450 dollars to file a zero dollar return. No thanks.
They are about equal. We might switch if Avalara support and account management lags.
It's great for calculating sales tax. It is less appropriate for providing tax estimates. The tax calculator used to work better, but is now cumbersome and tedious to use.
