Overall Satisfaction with Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT

Raiser's Edge NXT and database version are utilized by our university to keep track of alumni, friends and donors to the institution. I query data on a regular basis to create thank you letters and scholarship impact reports. When I encounter outdated information I email the data services team to get it updated.
  • Making the functionality of NXT so incomparable to the database version we have to use both.
  • Requiring the use of a third party (PaperSave) to upload scanned documents.
  • Frequent periods of inaccessibility that their engineers rush to fix (assuming they can duplicate your error, which sometimes they can't--even when creating a copy of your data).
  • Funds are not easy to access via NXT
  • Queries are not accessible via NXT
  • Emailing constituents should be easy and attractive through our CRM, but it's not so we use third parties like Constant Contact.
  • We've hired a specialist to work with Tableau to create the reports we need because they're not included with NXT
  • Accessibility on a mobile device would be helpful, but unavailable as far as I know.
  • This database lacks many important features, as previously discussed.

We had to hire someone to develop usable reports in Tableau. I don't find the built-in analytics and data intelligence very useful or attractive. Creating queries is often a guessing-game of where a particular field may be located and it's often difficult to pull the data we're looking for. To this day I have to run two queries to figure out who I should address thank you letters to.

The training was at the very beginning of my employment so I didn't know what I didn't know and I didn't know what I'd need to know at that point.

In my opinion, Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT is overpriced for the lack of product development and updates. In my experience, their product is neither intuitive nor effective. Their customer service is not effective or terribly concerned about resolving crippling issues in a timely fashion. I predict a massive migration away from Blackbaud as soon as a viable competitor for institutions of higher ed and large nonprofits is proven and comparably priced.
