Overall Satisfaction with Bonterra Development + Digital

The Hayward Area Recreation & Park District (H.A.R.D.) Foundation uses Bonterra Development + Digital as its primary CRM to track and communicate with donors and prospective donors. Prior to using Bonterra Development + Digital, the H.A.R.D. Foundation did not have a systematic way to track donors. In addition, the H.A.R.D. Foundation used a 3rd party email marketing tool to communicate with donors and prospects which proved to be inefficient. The product allows for easy tracking of donor activity and the email marketing tools allows us to better track the effectiveness of our communications.

  • The events module has proven to be very useful events large and small.
  • More flexibility in the development of sponsorship opportunities through the events module.
  • The auction function is very useful for silent and live auctions, but connectivity can be an issue. It would be helpful to be able to use the function off-line.
  • Adding a contact report form would be an excellent addition to the system and allow for better tracking of donor interactions.
  • The auction tool allowed our organization to go completely paperless for our golf tournament which aligns with our values. In addition, it allowed us to offer a robust silent auction with limited staff/volunteer effort.
  • The communication tool has allowed us to consolidate our email marketing efforts and provides excellent reporting on open rates, click throughs, etc.
  • The ability to incorporate multiple campaign pages has increased our ability to target specific audiences and push them towards priority funding areas.
As stated previously, I have set up Bonterra Development + Digital for at least 4 organizations. In addition, I have recommended Bonterra Development + Digital to at least 5 other organizations. In my opinion, Bonterra Development + Digital is the best tool for smaller organizations and those new to CRMs and donor tracking. I have found the implementation process to be very efficient and the implementation staff to be very easy to work with.
I have found that system disruptions are rare and find that the communication from Bonterra Development + Digital in those instances to be informative and timely. I can only recall the system being down one or two times in the 8 plus years I have used Bonterra Development + Digital.
It has allowed my current organization to finally have all donors in one place. In addition, the ability to communicate and track donors has greatly improved our efficiency. The ability to set up and implement multiple campaigns has also improved our overall ability to raise funds and target our donors more efficiently.
In addition to the products listed above, I have also used many proprietary tools developed by the organization. I find Bonterra Development + Digital to be easy to setup and use, especially for smaller organizations with limited staff and resources. Many nonprofits are unable to effectively use tools like Salesforce due to the extensive customization and development necessary to make the tool useful.

I have used the Bonterra Development + Digital tool at 4 different organizations since 2016. I think Bonterra Development + Digital is an excellent tool for smaller non-profit organizations as well as those organizations that have not used a CRM in the past. Its functionality, ease of use, and excellent customer support make it an excellent tool for small non-profit organizations. Once an organization has more than 5,000 donors/prospects the tool becomes less effective primarily because of the inability to track contacts, integrate with desktop email systems such as Outlook.
