Celonis is best suited for situations where you know there is an issue but there are hurdles to getting the information together to accurately define the issue. An example would be a process that you know has low/no value add that is highly manual. With Celonis, you can quantify how manual the activity is, the throughput time of the activity, rework rate of the activity, who the actors are, and how much all of this costs the firm. In the past, you would likely need a six-sigma project to run this. Where Celonis is not going to be successful is in any instance where the expectation is that Celonis will solve the problem for you unless you are buying extra Celonis services (which they most certainly have!). While Celonis does have automation capabilities that can potentially reduce the manual effort of low-variability, low/no value add activities, those automations still need to be built. Celonis exposes the opportunities. You need a capable team to support the creation of your dashboards and automation solutions. If you are buying Celonis, your organization is likely already growth-minded and continuous improvement oriented. If you do not believe this to be the case but leadership wants to move in that direction, Celonis can either act as a great change agent tool or a great source of friction and disruption depending on the organizational support you receive. Understanding the strategic initiatives of the organization and the level of buy-in and support are key. I have been very fortunate in this regard.
