Overall Satisfaction with Cisco Identity Services Engine (ISE)
We use it for our customers exactly. They use it for network access control. So we are using it to make the customer's premises and customer network more secure and to give the customer insight into who has access to his network and that he can control all access and also have the log files and everything.
- Actually, it is pretty good with scalability. So I have one big customer who has offices around the world and we have a worldwide deployment in place at this customer. And yeah, we run it 24/7 and actually, we have great results with that.
- I guess the user experience itself, it's sometimes a little bit slow, but this is also dependent on the platform and the scale of the deployment of course. But actually functionality-wise it's really, really good. But yeah, it could sometimes be a little quicker to react on the good front.
- Of course, there were some recent changes on the licensing front because when the product was started with Cisco, the licenses were lifetime for some of the licenses at least. And with recent versions, they changed that to also get yearly-based or perpetual licenses. And yeah, this of course for most of our customers increased the cost of the system by quite a great margin. All in all, I guess it is worth it.
So I also have deployed a system called TPAs by Aruba. It's functionality-wise, it's similar to ISE, and also has its pros and cons, but I'm more towards ISE in this case. And I also use some other systems that are in the same field, for example. But this is not really fully comparable because, with this system, the network access control is only a small part of what it does. So it is more geared towards some other use cases. And so not directly comparable.
