Overall Satisfaction with Dropbox

We use Dropbox to work on documents together. This is especially important for manuscript writing. We also use Dropbox with collaborators to distribute files too large to send via email. The only downside to Dropbox is that files accumulate very quickly. For instance, if you have the system synced to your desktop, copies of the files are stored locally. If then a person uploads 100Gb to your shared folder, 100Gb of your desktop drive is instantly used. This can be alleviated by turning off the sync feature.
  • Syncing
  • Sharing to other users
  • Saving conflicting copies
  • Too many conflicting copies. There should be a warning when someone currently has a file open.
  • This product improves our business but I don't pay for it directly.
Google Drive is only a web platform. Dropbox nicely integrates into the file system on your computer.

Yes

Dropbox is great for file sharing and for multiple people to edit the same document. The two downsides are the file sync to your desktop and the number of conflicting copies that get saved. The file sync is convenient as it saves a copy of everything to your desktop, however, when other users upload large files it fills your hard drive very quickly. The conflicting copies issue is the result of two people having the same file open at the same time and making different versions of the same file. Every time this happens a new conflicting copy is created. It becomes confusing.
