Overall Satisfaction with Google Workspace (formerly G Suite)
We use Google Workspace throughout the entire organization, primarily taking advantage of Gmail, Drive, and Sites. We use groups to containerize users and control access to resources internally, primarily centering around file access. Since our teams are globally distributed we rely on Google Workspace to be the core of every communication we have, including customer support, sales and meetings. As [a] global workforce, we're able to reliably stay in contact with each other despite the distance that separates us.
- Simplified sharing and collaboration through Drive and Shared Drives
- Greatly enhanced advanced functions in Google sheets like macro recording
- Regular updates and proactive communication around them
- Out of the box spam filtering
- SSO and third party app integrations
- The support team is frustrating to deal with and make you perform redundant troubleshooting tasks at each step of the way
- Per page permissions on Sites - they had it on classic but removed it on the new sites
- Need to add mail delegation to admin console so super admins can give managers access to departed staff accounts without having to reset passwords
- Longer log history - 60 days sometimes doesn't cut it
- Collaboration via sheets
- The meet is used daily
- We live and die by Gmail
- Scheduling meetings using Meet means the process is super simple and saves us time compared to creating a meeting via other services like Zoom.
- Being able to share and collaborate on live docs, sheets and presentations means [we] can work together in real-time and no longer have to lean on sending static file attachments to each other.
- Utilizing Groups to control permissions means we don't have to tediously give or revoke access to the shared drives when onboarding or offboarding - removing the person from the group takes care of all of that, saving time and giving us peace of mind.
- Rich attribute data we can add to user accounts means we can use third-party apps to build org charts with all the relevant info we need to see, this means we don't have to manually maintain an org chart.
- Microsoft 365 (formerly Office 365)
From the get-go Google Workspace is more polished, which makes sense given they've had a several-year lead on Microsoft in the cloud productivity space. Google's apps and third-party support [are] still miles ahead of Microsoft, this is in part due to the fact Google has run [its] entire operations in a cloud environment, and thus their apps and services have been built to take advantage of this technology. Microsoft's cloud services are improving every day and their experience is still being refined, but for simplistic, turn-key solutions Google Workspace still takes the cake.
