Overall Satisfaction with Intacct

I was introduced to Intacct about a year and a half ago while working for a non-profit in New York City as a senior accountant. The system was a huge upgrade from the previous accounting software as processes ran more efficiency and increased compatibility with other systems that were in use by the company. The main users of Intacct were the accounting department to record transactions and run reports. Use was extended to others across the organization when entering purchase orders and expense reimbursement.
  • The ease of use of Intacct was apparent from the beginning. The tutorials within the system and extensive help features worked perfectly for a company of our size and level of expertise.
  • Convenience of accessing the system anywhere with an internet connection.
  • Consultants from Clifton Larson Allen were of a great help during and after the implementation stage.
  • Fluidity of transactions between different modules to the General Ledger
  • As a non-profit user, there were some instances where some language, features, and terminology were not perfect due to our fund accounting system.
  • Report writing customization was an issue during the time that I used it, although they were working on updating the functionality.
  • Adjusting journal entries from the Sales and A/R modules sometimes were messy to reconcile.
  • Definitely faster work processes and convenience of not being tied down to an offline system.
  • Ability to extend use to non-accounting staff saved a lot of time for the accounting department to focus on other goals. Although there is a training phase that should be built in initially.
  • From my experience, it was a major improvement to search transactions and perform reconciliations in Intacct.
  • Uploading documents feature was a huge help to reduce space and extra paper.
  • Streamlined processes making them more efficient and raised level of accountability.
We looked at Financial Force early on, but price and compatibility to fund accounting did not meet our needs. When introduced to Intacct it hit on all of the key points that we were looking for in our upgrade of our accounting system and would highly recommend it to others. Intacct continues to develop new features to make the product better. I attended their annual conference in Las Vegas last year and my impression of the system and of Intacct were greatly enhanced.
I currently work for a public accounting firm now and don't use Intacct, but it is by far the best accounting I have seen.
Cost should always be a main driver, also if using consultants, it is best to use someone who is very familiar with your current accounting software, along with any other systems that are in use. During implementation, we were discarding one system (Blackbaud Financial Edge) that Intacct was replacing and keeping our database (Salesforce.com); there were some features that worked well and were fully compatible and some that took some time to work out a solution. The consultants were sometimes relied on heavily.
