Overall Satisfaction with Jamf Pro
We're currently using Jamf Pro in one department within our college to manage 100 Macs located in ten labs, classrooms, and conference rooms. It provides a consistent user experience for approximately 400 users across all 100 machines. It has replaced our former cocktail of DeployStudio, WorkGroup Manager, and Munki which... mostly worked. Mostly. Jamf is proving to be a much more stable solution for us, and it's so much better to have all that management centralized into one product. We're able to efficiently keep our labs securely patched and push out settings to maintain compliance with directives from Central IT.
- Manages printers much more conveniently and cleanly.
- Streamlines our annual wipe/refresh process for our labs and classroom.
- Makes it super easy to deploy settings and configurations to our clients.
- Keeps software securely patched.
- Can't use a cloud distribution point as a failover for an on-prem distribution point.
- Since getting it set up, I'm now spending much less time troubleshooting reoccurring problems and am now available to identify and solve new problems in our classroom computer labs.
- Jamf Pro has drastically reduced hands-on time required from techs in our labs and classrooms.
Jamf is the only solution we actually tested. We found it to do everything we wanted and needed in an MDM product, and so was worth the cost. While there are open-source products out there which and accomplish similar jobs, the support we get from Jamf has been fantastic.

Using Jamf Pro
400 - We have roughly 450 faculty, staff, and student users on the 100 computers we currently manage with Jamf Pro. We're in a lab/classroom setting with iMacs, so we don't want users to install/modify any software. The only functionality we've made available in Self Service is a link to our ticketing system just in case users can't remember the URL. Otherwise, our users aren't even aware Jamf is there. "It just works." :)
2 - Needs to be able to think creatively to find solutions when Apple makes changes to the OS which may or may not break things in JAMF. Scripting knowledge is incredibly helpful as well.
- Setting up new computers for classroom use in our annual refresh.
- Limiting which settings students are able to access and change.
- Managing printers in classrooms and labs.
- Deploy the Adobe Creative Cloud Remote Update Manager which was not included in our campus package for whatever reason, then automate it running to be sure the Creative Cloud suite is fully up to date.
- Once I've proven the benefits of Jamf Pro in our labs, I'm hoping to expand the product through the rest of our college.
