Overall Satisfaction with Nutanix Cloud Infrastructure

We received Nutanix AOS as part of a turnkey solution along with Lenovo hardware and Aruba networking. It is used in a rack system that backs our casino floor operations and supports VMware vCenter 6.7.
  • Great summary dashboards
  • Feature-rich
  • Automates a lot of maintenance jobs
  • Errors and warnings are sometimes confusing
  • Interface/GUI overexposes information at times, very busy screens
  • Implementing backups (with Veeam) has been challenging due to storage performance.
  • Getting support has been challenging as well, as I'm redirected to Lenovo's website, and Lenovo isn't nearly as good online as Nutanix AOS.
Nutanix AOS makes it possible to modularize VMware. By that, I mean you just add nodes, because the storage and networking are all abstracted from the hosts. Most of this centers around storage - the Nutanix CVM that lives on each host serves as a data mover, handling hypervisor disk operations. This could be great for some people; you don't need a dedicated storage admin, and a lot of other management tasks are simplified using this approach.

Evaluating Nutanix Cloud Infrastructure and Competitors

Nutanix AOS was provided as part of a designed solution and resold to us by the same vendor that integrated it. Because this vendor also provides broad platform support for their solution (of which Nutanix AOS is a part), it made sense to stay with the recommendation for long-term supportability.

Nutanix Cloud Infrastructure Support

On the occasion that I've worked with the Nutanix AOS team, they're knowledgeable and quick to assist. Their support ranks higher than most and is what you can and should expect of an enterprise-class product.

Nutanix Cloud Infrastructure Reliability

We've had significant challenges with backup performance, and VM snapshots seem to take longer. We're currently in the process of reviewing Best Practices to make sure storage performance is optimal. It's a very different approach than in previous, more traditional architectures involving a SAN, outboard switching/networking, and so forth. Still up in the air as to how much benefit this provides, but on the whole, it works pretty well.
