Overall Satisfaction with Oracle Database 12c

I work in software service company; I support various company customers. My current assignment is on 12cR1; Oracle Database is used for reporting purposes. One financial company is utilizing Oracle Database to generate reports from BO; data is coming from a mainframe system loaded to Oracle via Informatica. Data is loaded from various source systems and reports are generated by user groups. This reporting system provides users the option to slice and dice data based on multiple regions spread across the globe at one location.
  • You can now create a table column with a 'generated as identity' clause
  • In a prior release of Oracle, a column can't be in more than one index. In 12C, we can include a column in a B-tree index as well as a BitMap index.
  • New SQL syntax to simplify fetching the first few rows
  • Adaptive Query Optimization and Online Stats Gathering
  • Give some options for data replication rather than full dependence on oracle golden gate
  • Easy diagnostic tools which help the users base to understand problem in more simpler way
  • Optional diagnostics and tuning packs should be part of the database
  • Positive impact as performance has improved and reporting SLA s are mostly met
I was not involved in DB selection process but the main reason why Oracle is chosen over other competitors is the available talent pool of experts.
It is more suited for big shops who can afford expensive hardware upgrades, as Oracle is becoming more hardware demanding with each release. Small shops are losing hopes. It is true excess hardware resources are very much required when demanding performance but for small shops, you don't need all the advisers' reports.
