Overall Satisfaction with Paychex Flex

Used for the entire organization. Payroll processing, payroll tax remittance, retirement funding transfers
  • Remit federal and state payroll taxes. I no longer have to do this.
  • Provide detailed information to employees regarding their own pay information. Employees have access through a portal.
  • Remit retirement contributions to retirement plan administrator
  • Their ad hoc reporting tool is difficult to use. I don't find it to be very intuitive. The few times I have used it I have had to contract someone for help.
  • I was not satisfied with the training I received in using the software. It took a while to figure out how to do things.
  • I get the impression that my client representative has too many people to support.
  • Paychex Flex has reduced the amount of time that I spend processing payroll and remitting payroll taxes
Sometimes it is hard to reach my support person. If I have to leave a message she usually gets back with me the same day but not every time. It is now possible to reach someone else if my support person is not available.
We chose Paychex Flex because it is integrated with the company that handles the retirement accounts for our employees. Also, as previously mentioned, they handle payroll tax remittance.

There are a number of features that we don't use and this adds a level of complexity. Ad hoc reporting is not straightforward.
I would not recommend it to someone who has limited computer skills.

Using Paychex Flex

1 - Accounting and finance.
1 - Someone with more than basic computer skills. Someone who understands payroll issues such as withholding for taxes and benefit payments. Someone who is familiar with time-off accrual.
  • Vehicle for processing payroll
  • Generate data to update general ledger with payroll cost information
  • Track paid-time-off accrual and usage
  • Generate W-2 forms at year end
I am satisfied with the product and I don't want to go through the time and effort to find a different solution.

  • W-2 Forms are generated with not involvement from me.
  • Preparing Ad Hoc reports is complicated. Difficult to find the location of the data elements I am looking for.
  • Editing some screens is not intuitive.
