Overall Satisfaction with QuickBooks Online

I use QuickBooks Online to manage all of our A/P and A/R, expense tracking, contractor and client information, and all things related to tax preparation.
  • Clear invoice management: ability to filter invoices by certain criteria.
  • Easy reconciliation process.
  • Good expense recognition for importing incoming transactions.
  • Customization. There is simply not enough customization for my liking, especially as a company that is not a product sales based company. There are many field names that should be able to be customized for your organization, as well as specific customizations for invoicing, reports, etc.
  • Client Management could be better. For example, if you have a client at a large company and you file more than one email in the clients record, it will automatically send all invoices and sales forms to all emails on file as opposed to you being able to list several contacts at a particular company and selecting which to send forms to when you are creating it.
  • Internal Email Forwarding. As of now, you can not email copies (regularly or bcc) of invoices and other sales forms sent out. For example, if you want to bcc a manager on every invoice sent out, you have to write their email in every time (keep in mind there are character limits for the email data field), and it can not be sent bcc.
  • While I can not provide hard numbers, I can say that QuickBooks has centralized a once fragmented process, saving time from hopping around various documents and spreadsheets to gather relevant information.
Quickbooks was the software I was first introduced to, and have stayed with it for familiarity and ease for my boss.
Specifically for invoicing, I have used Freshbooks Online, and while it does have some features that would be useful in Quickbooks, overall, it is not as powerful Quickbooks.
I have browsed Xero, another online accounting program, but have not spent enough time with it to know whether it is better than Quickbooks.
It truly depends on what kind of company you have, and what you are using it for. QuickBooks Online is really great if you are just managing your expenses and books. If you are using it to send invoices, there could be better services out there for you. It also depends on how interested you are in having different tools for slightly related business functions.
