Overall Satisfaction with Sage Intacct

We have not integrated with a 3rd party product at this time; however, I have colleagues who have and are happy with the end results. I have heard several complaints about implementation so it seems you have to be prepared to compensate a 3rd party or partner to implement integrated solutions.
We use Sage Intacct in the finance department to perform day to day accounting functions such as A/P and A/R and utilize the general ledger and reporting to produce financial statements and to compare actuals to budget. We also use the 3rd party add on of F/A from Joseph Eve which integrates in the G/L.

It addressed the need to slice data effectively by business line with dimensions and departments in our reporting. It also increased efficiency in several areas where we upload data from our proprietary systems and from P/R, etc.
  • The software allows import of data from spreadsheets very well, eliminating manual data entry, whether used to implement the system by importing accounts, customers, vendors, etc. or for entry of journal entries. We particularly use uploads that produce invoices for our clients and also produce the associated entries in the general ledger. We also pay customers where we collect their parking revenue with a similar upload, which produces A/P entries and G/L entries. This functionality was implemented for us by an Intacct partner; however, it was well worth it!
  • The A/R module has limitations.
  • The system is missing functionality in the segregation of duty area. The ACH payment functionality within the A/P/Cash Management area works well; however, in an ideal world the ability to allow one individual to set up a vendor with a separate access designation to approve it before use would be required. Especially when entering ACH banking data.
  • The quarterly releases are both good and bad. Many times they provide greater functionality, but with little notice. It can be challenging for some when the screens change overnight.
  • The ticketing system for issues (in the Community) is a little cumbersome, but has worked when he have used it. Our CFO spent a lot of time just trying to be able to post J/E's when I was on PTO. He had to join the Community, issue a ticket, and actually talk to someone to figure out how to accomplish all of these things. He was frustrated by this, particularly since he had previously posted J/E's in my absence and for an unknown reason that access was removed.
  • The monthly upload to invoice our customers would currently save a couple of days versus manual data entry.
  • The monthly upload to pay our customers would also save at least a couple of days if not more.
  • Our prior accounting systems was not user-friendly. One of the great points to make about Sage Intacct is that it is user friendly and easy for new employees to learn. Additionally, there are online resources for training in the "Community" that are very good and some of the basic training can be found free!
We have not experienced any issues with the automation of the core modules. They have performed as expected.
We do use the multi-entity function which eliminated the prior use of Excel spreadsheets for consolidating, etc.
QuickBooks, Navision, Great Plains, Oracle

  • Intacct is more sophisticated than QuickBooks and provides far more functionality.
  • Navision is not user-friendly and difficult to use.
  • Great Plains/Microsoft Great Plains worked well for me in it's time. I have not used it in 6 - 7 years and same for Oracle which we converted to from Great Plains.

I do like Sage Intacct in general and believe it will grow with our company with the use of 3rd party integrations such as bill.com or Mineral Tree which is one of the next projects to consider - A/P approval workflow with automation of payments! I wish that Sage Intacct provided a better solution for invoice approval and imaging of documents in an automated fashion in the core A/P module.
I would highly recommend Sage Intacct to a small/medium size company. We currently have 7 users in the finance department and it works well. I have concerns as the company grows about segregation of duties in some areas. Perhaps this would be OK using various access settings for different individuals but there are limitations and would mention this as a consideration for a colleague.

Our invoicing is accomplished primarily through a monthly upload. For a company with high volume invoicing, I would have to recommend they carefully review third party options for integration if they use Sage Intacct. On the flip side, there are several implementations on the MarketPlace. I am aware of colleagues that utilize bill.com or Mineral Tree for their A/P workflow needs.
