It's really user preference. Some people have been told by other colleagues that it's a great system to use so they want to go with that. There are other systems that do exactly the same thing. I have not found that 1ShoppingCart has any unique features that would lead me to persuade a client to use it over another one. I usually have clients look at two or three options and give feedback. Sometimes it comes down to monthly prices.

Excellent for marketplace sellers with a lot of products - or those with a high turnover of SKUs. Not well suited to the small seller with only a few SKUs to promote. Also probably not suited to someone who only cares about a single marketplace. The real strength of it comes from managing multiple marketplaces through a single system.

Pros

  • Email Marketing - Easy to use templates but you can also use your custom html template.
  • Managing your list - It is easy to set up separate lists and create opt in forms for each one. It allows multiple opt in forms with customized messages for all steps of the opt in process.
  • Ecommerce - Setup of your product or service is easy. You can use buy now type buttons on the 1ShoppingCart store. Integration with your merchant account or Paypal is offered.
  • Includes an affiliate management option. This module allows you to manage an affiliate with custom links and an area to post materials for affiliates to use - such as banners.
  • Scales very well - able to handle thousands of product listings with no lag.
  • Constantly implementing new marketplaces.
  • Stays up to date with all changes to marketplace templates and SEM revisions.

Cons

  • I found their customer service team to be confusing with their responses and not as helpful as other products customer service teams. It can be frustrating to try to decipher their responses to more complicated questions and often felt a little 'annoying' whenever I needed to reach out.
  • When creating newsletters, I found the WYSIWYG (what you see if what you get) version of creating newsletters the formatting was almost always off which always resulted in needing to send tests to myself to fix the formatting because it never showed up as it would look when it was sent. That took a lot of extra time to edit.
  • Lots of different options with reports, as a beginner you may need someone else to support you. In the beginning I needed support from other team members in how to understand and create certain reports. Not the most intuitive and user friendly until you understand what you're doing!
  • Faster repricing on Amazon
  • Better technical support. Tickets often take far to long to be closed.
  • Fix bugs and glitches that often cause slowness using the software.

If I were in charge of the renewal decision I would really take a look at 1SC vs. Infusionsoft. There are many ways each are great and many ways they are different. I would look at what was best for my company and make the choice accordingly. I find that Infusionsoft has many more ways to intuitively market, segment and cultivate new leads and grow the business as a whole than 1SC currently has.

Only reason I would renew is because everything is live and working on the system. If I were the company owner I would build my own e-commerce site as a stand-alone site and migrate away from ChannelAdvisor ASAP.

Better control of scope between the resources on both sides involved would allow for better change management.

Alternatives Considered

1SC was chosen years ago for the companies I've used it for. At that point they were one of the only companies offering this kind of service. The ability to have customers all in one place, have opt-ins to keep building the list and ability to add hundreds of products and programs and add these to the website are all reasons the company continues to use 1SC
Haven't really found a true competitor in the same scale.

Return on Investment

  • Better ability to gather information quickly for customers to support in the customer service response time
  • Faster lead conversion
  • Ability for multiple users to use the product under different user names so the team can work on different projects at once
  • Unless you know HTML the newsletters can take some time to be formatted correctly based on other programs
  • Faster Activation on New Marketplaces/Comparison Shopping Engines: With most new websites we look to expand to, I've been able to completely map our entire product feed and go "live" with our listings in under a week. It's a very quick turnaround. We've actually been able to launch three new marketplaces in the last few months.
  • Increased Employee Efficiency: ChannelAdvisor removes a lot of the manual optimization typically needed to manage a product feed. This has freed up a ton of time to focus efforts elsewhere.
