If you are looking for a basic CRM this tool would work. It has lots of room to grow.

JIRA

JIRA is a perfect fit for any organization where they have a large "in-flow" of projects, tasks, requests, etc. It helps to visualize who and where the majority of the projects are and how much time is being allotted or can be allotted to a particular task. It is particularly helpful in making sure that each team member is given an equal amount of work (if that is the goal) and seeing where each project stands.

Pros

  • Allows you to send emails directly from the target's account
  • Allows you to create tasks
  • Keeping track of notes made is easy

  • Atlassian JIRA is used to track defects/CR's etc. Details about the defect raised by a QA, then its review by business users to give a go ahead to fix the bug, Developer to analysis and fixing the bug with comments, deploying to QA for testing, Tester testing the defect and then into UAT for business user testing for its deployment to Production
  • Integration with Fisheye, Stash, GIT, HP Quality Center etc
  • JIRA's project Dashboard for tracking all the stories/defects.

Cons

  • Difficult to upload targets
  • Not easy to modify a target
  • When uploading targets you can not attach them to tags until after they are uploaded.
  • When listing opportunities in the system, you are limited with what stage the opportunity is in and the star system is not very helpful. The status' are very vague and not always accurate.

  • The new version of JIRA is a bit slow and not responsive.
  • A lot of functionality added has lead to slowness in the tool
  • A click here and there leads to opening a small window for adding comments which can be irritating sometimes.

We are very heavily dependent on Atlassian JIRA and have made it an integral part of our engineering and development best practices.

I used to get immediate support from the Jira helpdesk; also most of my issues are already explained in the user manual which is really helpful.

Take your time implementing Jira. Make sure you understand how you want to handle your projects and workflows. Investing more time in the implementation can pay off in a long run. It basically took us 5 days to define and implement correctly, but that meant smooth sailing later on.

JIRA blows Sharepoint out of the water. I've been a heavy user of both and the JIRA implementation we have now has reduced so many headaches within our organization. At one time, we had physical cards to track Sharepoint issues and were forced to stand around a board for 15 minutes, twice a week, fighting for urgency. JIRA has made it easier to enter tickets, prioritize them, watch them through the entire process and sign off upon completion

Return on Investment

  • Helps with tracking prospects through the sales/marketing funnel
  • Has led some employees to stop using the tool and going back to spreadsheets. When trying to attach targets to tags you need to do so individually and if you upload a large list you need to do this manually, one by one, and requires a lot of time. So people have gone back to spreadsheets where they could simply just cut and paste new people in.

  • Better communication between development and support tiers. - Positive
  • ACCOUNTABILITY!!!!!!!!!!!!! - Positive
  • Consolidation of spreadsheets, emails, word docs, etc. That we used before JIRA to track incidents and initiatives. - Positive
  • Once the business flow is formalized through a tool such as JIRA, corporate politics rears it's head angrier than ever. - Negative, though not a fault of the JIRA solution singularly.
