ADP ezLaborManager

ADP ezLaborManager is a good software to compliment RUN Powered by ADP. I am not sure how well it would work with other payroll processing programs. As long as you teach your employees and managers to use the functions with in the system and monitor your discounts you shouldn't be disappointed.

BillQuick

Billquick is a cheaper option than many other time tracking systems. For a small or medium company in which the user is not that tech-savvy, I would recommend the system. It holds many of the same basic features that many small or medium companies would look for in a time system. The interface is very user friendly and much more appealing than what I have seen from other time systems around the same price range.

Pros

  • The interface of ADP ezLaborManager is simple to use, training only takes a couple of minutes for employees and a couple more for managers.
  • Time off requests are simple to add to the system, review, and approve or deny. There is a space for comments so that managers and employees can communicate directly on the time off request.
  • The employee and supervisor approval process confirms that the employees and managers agree on hours work to satisfy in errors in time before processing payroll.
  • Importing ADP ezLaborManager to RUN Powered by ADP only takes a couple minutes allowing you to get started on processing your payroll in a fraction of the time compared to manual time cards.

  • Our organization migrated over to Billquick from NetSuite Openair. Billquick has a much user-friendly interface and more presentable reports.
  • Our organization had specific metrics we wanted to measure that were unavailable in Billquick's standard software. It was an easy process to be able to work with Billquick's customization team to get Billquick to calculate these metrics and generate reports that now included those metrics.
  • Our organization was able to invoice client reimbursable expenses as well as professional fees right directly out of the system on a professional and presentable template, thus saving us time on creating client presentable invoices outside of the system.

Cons

  • Trying to research previous time cards past a month are hard to achieve. There is a custom date range option but it rarely works, the program just sits there and doesn't pull up the custom range.
  • Pulling reports for various needs is also more difficult then it needs to be. Instead of pulling a quick report with the dates and parameters you need you have to go in and edit the report and then go back in and edit it again to return it to default settings.
  • You also have to watch your invoices and make sure you are receiving your discounts otherwise this software can be quite costly.
  • Make sure your employees bookmark the ADP ezLaborManager website, otherwise it gets difficult to find through an internet search.

  • Troubleshoot why some billable items don't make it to invoice
  • Troubleshoot why some historical billing disappears
  • Better flexibility in formatting reports
  • Extra options in Matter Change module that are conducive to fields on the Matter screen

We currently are seeking a more robust system without consequential billing flaws. We may not find a system better or more economical than BillQuick but at this time we are in review.

Usability

ADP is a good system to track information but, what it lacks is just some detail that provides time savings. Some instances they have made "updates" that tend to have been better previous to those "updates." One example is for staff to see how they have used their time off in the past. There should be an easy way to report and review such other than looking at pay periods. Pay statement and review and totals can also improve.

The training provided was based on a generic database and reporting which made it difficult to compare when you had your own database to work at. It also didn't provide good written materials that would be useful after the training session. It was more geared towards the practice tests or applications within the training.

It does take some time to understand the options and to find the best invoice template.

Alternatives Considered

Cost and time spent on implementation were factors. ADP is reputable as well. Concerns were costs are high and extra modules that should be part of the standard are high.

Previously we used Timeslips. We selected BillQuick because of it's ability to house employee, contractor, matter and client information along with corresponding documentation. Additionally, it's ability to convert time directly to billing was a large proponent for why we selected this system. However, we do not use BillQuick's compatible accounting system as we were working with Quickbooks at the time which was satisfactory for our needs - unfortunately it was cumbersome to feed billing data to Quickbooks, after which time we were purchased by another company and had to send them separate reports for loading our billing to their accounting system. We are currently evaluating other timekeeping/billing systems to convert to as BillQuick is no longer scaleable enough to keep up with our volume and our client's ever changing billing requirements.

Return on Investment

  • It's saved us the cost of hiring & training a dedicated HR manager as ADP does so much of this for us.
  • ADP saved us a lot of headaches in regards to keeping track of payroll filings.

  • It's increased employee efficiency, as it's easy to use.
  • It provides better customer service when a client calls and asks for a detailed summary of their account. We can easily run the statement.
  • We converted from another program 4 years ago and have liked it better.
