Classy

Classy is a great product overall. I gave it only a rating of 7/10 because its utility will vary depending on what your needs are and what kind of org you are. Also, depends on the CRM it integrates to if it does integrate. They have many different integrations. We have the Salesforce integration for Classy which has several issues. I would say their Salesforce integration is not fully matured yet.
If you do not have any integrations to worry about I would give Classy 10/10.

eTapestry

eTapestry is well suited to very large orgs which have money to spend and don't mind wasting some money on people who don't open emails, etc. It is less appropriate for smaller scale organizations, I think, since they usually have less money and won't necessarily be using the fundraising functionality very much

  • The Classy platform is easy to use, both for the staff and our volunteer fundraisers
  • It's easy to build a great looking fundraising page
  • Classy support (particularly chat and phone) are attentive and responsive. Every one there is smart and nice!

  • The payment function is eTapestry is extremely user friendly. Worked very well at auctions and other events held by the organization.
  • eTapestry retains a lot of information about your donors so that you can engage in meaningful relationships with them.
  • eTapestry keeps your records organized well. It is easy to navigate the program.

  • The simplicity of Classy's campaign design editor also means it isn't as customizable as I'd like it to be. There are times when I wish I could change something that is embedded in the template.
  • Like all online platforms, there are occasional glitches that occur with Classy. For example, there have been times when our Salesforce connector pushes data in incorrectly or is missing. This is usually addressed fairly quickly.
  • One feature that is especially difficult for our organization to manage is that we always provide our donors the ability to mail in their credit card information for us to process. This only becomes an issue when we do not have an email address for the donor because Classy and Salesforce use a donors email address to distinguish users. Therefore, when we use a generic email from our organization for that donor sometimes records get crossed or edited automatically.

  • It would be extremely helpful if eTapestry allowed for multiple "sticky notes" to be added to account records. If there is a way, I'm currently not aware. We have different colored sticky notes for different types of notes and sometimes more than one sticky note applies.
  • eTapestry integrates with Constant Contact, but it would be great if there were a module within eTapestry that allowed the user to creative attractive enewsletters/eblasts, from within eTapestry instead of needing yet another platform.

Due to all of the things described in this review, we just decided not to renew eTapestry. Users were rebelling, which led to duplicative records and mass emails that go to the same people twice. It became a real problem for us in terms of staff satisfaction with the tools available to them and in terms of maintaining good database hygiene. We couldn't afford to stay because of these factors

VERY easy to use, but lacks flexibility. But very easy to learn and master, even for someone with technical skills. They offer live chat which is a great help for on-demand support. At higher call volumes, you may wait 10 minutes, but I’ve never waited for more than that and the support if 90% of the time very helpful.

I have never had an issue accessing eTapestry. It does occasionally go down for maintenance. When that happens, they give you a lot of notice and generally schedule maintenance for hours between midnight and 6am so that business won't be disrupted.

The product does what it is supposed to, although there are downsides. There are positive and negatives for every product. This is less expensive alternative for a small organization tracking minimum information.

Classy's team was very helpful as we transitioned over, and helped us get everything set up quite easily. The few times we've had issues or questions, their online chat feature has been a quick way to get answers. On Giving Tuesday last year, the site went down, but Classy was quick with communication to its clients and had the problem resolved in about an hour. I know that if we have any problems or questions, the company and its team will be responsive and helpful. That makes a difference to me and our small team. We don't have time to troubleshoot or stay on hold for a long time waiting for support.

They have always walked me step by step through questions I have or processes I need to learn more about. The chat support option is very convenient and I always end with a positive experience.The customer/client support is something eTapestry should pride itself on.

The online tutorials were easy to follow and explained in detail steps. I was able to put together an organization SOP for best practices in case I was not in the office or no longer there.

The organization as fairly happy with the implementation in that the data was all in the right places. However as they continued to grow, they outgrew eTapestry's functions.

Alternatives Considered

Classy

We chose to go with Classy because we needed something simple to set up for peer to peer fundraising without an upfront investment fee. We didn't need customization or bells and whistles and we were able to get the fundraising site set up and running in about a week. Ultimately the hope is that we grow such that we can look at investing in a larger platform that allows for more customization and is more of a CRM database, but for now, Classy was perfect to get us off the ground.

Ages ago I built several donor databases in Access. I've been a system and data administrator (among other things) for many years, but have never worked with a competitive product. I inherited my eTapestry system when I joined the organization and spent five years working with it.

  • I haven't had an experience yet with an organization that felt their needs were being met by eTapestry, so that's a tough question for me. Then again, nonprofits come to us when they have some kind of problem to solve, so we're not hearing from the people who adore it.
