IBM Digital Analytics

IBM Digital Analytics is well suited to large retail clients but there may be other more cost effective options for analyzing smaller content driven sites. Ask about the data retention policy and also about the Digital Data feeds if you will be interested in storing IBM data in your own data warehouse.

Pros

IBM Digital Analytics

  • Click pathways provided a robust way to analyze visitor pathways
  • TruePath Funnels were essential to learn day over day changes through key lead capture paths
  • Ability to accept and table a variety of user & registration IDs allowed us to perform off-UI multichannel analysis

Cons

IBM Digital Analytics

  • Custom reports are often too slow when running. Default data reports run quickly but any report that is done using a custom date range is too slow. G.A doesn't have the same problems
  • Dashboards need to be more flexible. I'd like to make more use of the dashboards but they are quite restrictive in the number of options that can be included. All relevant data widgets should be incorporated into D.A. G.A allows custom dashboards to a much greater level than D.A
  • Segments - are a very useful tool which allows you to mine further in your data. However, they are too restrictive. Persistent segments can only be run for 93 days and one time segments can only be ran for 35 days. Both options limit you from getting a real accurate picture over time of your segments. Why can’t this be opened up to 365 days?

With DA being part of the IBM portfolio you know it will benefit from the size and scale of what IBM has to offer. Whether it be acquisitions or the product roadmap you know IBM will want to ensure that DA is right at the top of the market

As reports are templated, the system is pretty quick. Sometimes you have to wait a bit for a report to render. Or you might have to re-load the page. But there is no real issue here and the system is on par with other similar systems.

Overall, the level of support is very good and I would say it is a strong asset of the solution. However, you can sometimes feel that there is a difference of level among the support team.

Online training is really great. One of the best assets that they have. Lots of great videos, pop quizzes at the end of each module. Fantastic. Other tools have similar features, but not as good.

Alternatives Considered

IBM Digital Analytics

I think that Google Analytics does everything just a little bit better than IBM. I was brought in with IBM being so deeply integrated with existing systems that changing to another tool isn't viable at this time.
