The closet thing we had to Informer before was something called Query Builder. However, unless you were really good at coding and technology, it was like reading greek to the basic user of our system. Informer provides such an easy user experience that most people who were intimated about the new product at first, were surprised at how quickly they were able to figure it out and jump right in writing their own personalized reports.

Entrinsik Informer's ease of use and its ability to connect with multiple data sources made Informer the best choice for our college. Other reporting tools required extensive IT involvement to create reports which caused users to wait on availability of resources to meet user needs.

My OIT office hasn't provided any other similar tool. Prior to Intrinsik, we typed script into the interface!

As stated it works well for extractions, but lacks report design capability. One other thing it does well is query multiple database platforms at the same time. E.g. mysql and unidata.

We use Informer with Ellucian Colleague instead of Ellucian's solutions which were substandard when we implemented Informer and remain unattractive for a variety of reasons with the standouts being cost and support. Informer is a fraction of the cost and the admin responsibilities are much less than what peers using Ellucian's DROA solution describe.

Informer is not as advanced as Business Objects or Tableau, and we have had to use Tableau at times with reports that used a lot of aggregation, but the simplicity is often a strong suit of Informer, allowing users without programming experience the ability to create simple reports, where the other tools would be much harder. And as long as you can write the SQL to create a report you need, Informer can store the report for you to use along side all the others. I'd like it to add some features, certainly, but I've been very happy with it.

Informer is more cost effective and easier to teach end users to write their own reports, but it still provides just as much functionality as the other products I've used. Informer is easy to manage and administer with a small number of IT employees per number of end users.

Before purchasing Entrinsik Informer we used Query Builder or Excel via an odbc driver to access and report of off Unidata. Both of these other products only allowed us to report off of one table at a time. If you wanted data from multiple tables that had to be done with some other tool after extracted from the database. Neither tool had a robust report writer or a report scheduler like we needed. Informer solved both of these problems for us.

Crystal Reports with UniDATA ODBC. This works quite well but is cumbersome to set up and maintain. This required several steps outside the UniDATA database as well as setting up security views and a variety of processes that have to be monitored more closely. No other systems were evaluated to replace the old query interface.

- Colleague Reporting Analytics
Real Time data takes the place of batch data draws to file the Data Warehouses. The products most powerful asset is the ease of generating ad-hoc reporting to last minute informational requests. There are definite advantages to the mapping of files within the same Database Management platform to link different tables for a complete picture of the data. The archiving feature has plenty of use for some analytical work on saved data sets. The ease in developing reports is much cleaner than trying to develop reports for CROA. I would like to see a better interface that works much like Business Objects of click, drag, and drop. The Java script writing features seems to be a bit tempermental with different constructs and definitely needs greater training options than the existing things done from ICON.

Informer - A Good Fit for Paciolan Hosted Product
Was too long ago to remember other products evaluated but they would've been specific to Universe. In a previous position I did a lot of work with Business Objects and Crystal. The investment in Informer is much more cost effective than BO/Crystal and fits within our product pricing much better.

We have used Unidata QB and Business Objects in the past. Our problems with Query Builder were that we did not have the ability to report from multiple files easily. A lot if IT time was spent on building computed columns to get data in one location. This went away with Informer.
With Business Objects we did not have a dedicated BO administrator that was trained in Business Objects. the cost of Business Objects was high and required a conversion of the data to a data warehouse that needed regular updating (nightly). With Informer we get nearly the same results at a lower cost and with little training for end-users and It staff alike.
