  • Ubiquity. Evernote is everywhere. It's a native application on your Mac or PC, it resides on the web with access from any computer with web access, and it has great apps for tablets and smart phones.
  • Easy Capture. If you do any kind of research for work or personal, there are Evernote web clipper apps for all current browsers. Capturing a website or article is as easy as clicking a button on your browser's toolbar. And it's smart too, it usually knows what folder your selection should go in to based on contextual information. A related web clipper called "Clearly" will convert any web page into an article format, where you can use a highlighter before you save it to an Evernote folder. You can have the article read out loud to you as well. You also get a "secret" Evernote email address. Forwarding an email to this address places the email in an Evernote folder of your choosing.
  • The ability to share folders. I once created a folder for an associate who left town for an extended period. I scanned important documents and mail for this individual several times per week. They would check the folder through their web browser every few days and make notations or print what they needed. Much simpler than emailing.
  • Indexing. I currently have over 2,800 notes and over 50 folders in my personal Evernote account. Every note that's added can have "tags". Every note will go into a folder. My "home" folder is called "Inbox". If I'm not sure where to put something, it will go in "Inbox" until I decide where it belongs or I create a new folder for it. Also, when you pay for a premium account, everything gets OCR'd (optical character recognition) including photos. This makes finding things you've put into Evernote very easy and efficient.
  • Learning curve. I have introduced many people to Evernote as I believe in it's utility and feel it is share-worthy. In my experience, very few whom I have shown it to actually have taken to it and use it on a regular basis. The tablet and smart phone apps used to be very un-intuitive and a little on the clunky side. I have seen improvement in the years I have been using the mobile apps and I expect that to continue. At the end of the day, it's a new service that needs some time and attention to understand how to use.

  • The search feature is extremely good. The capability to search within a PDF allows me to compare white papers against articles I have for stats and support information. This has helped improve my blogposts and articles, and allowed me to create new posts for others as well.
  • Incorporating images is excellent, allowing for notes as needed
  • The shortcuts - adding a list of articles that the user expects to access makes sense and is convenient.
  • Being able to record notes for each note is a favorite - it does allow me to recall additional information about the note I am creating.
  • I like that I can update in my phone app or my laptop and keep notes up to date. I plan to write a book using Evernote as a collector because I can sync thoughts easily as I go.
  • The app in Hootsuite is extremely buggy when it comes to edits and sharing. I had to turn it off. Extremely dysfunctional and useless. If this can be improved, it would allow me to capture Twitter favorite tweets easily. This would let me centralize new articles and increase my usage with Evernote.
  • Maybe an integration with remember the milk to create a better integration of reminders.

  • Very well organized UX and really nice UI
  • Works well to incorporate notes into a fast-paced schedule
  • Allows access to information across devices
  • Ability to tag and organize information
  • Integrates really well with other products
  • Browser plug-in makes tagging even easier
  • Limited, but practical access for free.
  • Search is a little weak
  • Lists are not very easy to use. There is no "check" to complete.

  • To do lists, both at a micro and macro level. Any note can have a to do list in it, and you can have a list of time-sorted reminders, each one of which points to a specific note. Hard to talk about but very easy to do.
  • Keeping files in context with other information. For example, we're working on a project with a client and we've got an RFP from the client, a proposal from us, and a power point that the client saw. I've got all those in a file along with my list of things to do. Whenever we talk about this project, I pull up the note and have everything I need. In theory I can do all this in Salesforce, but Evernote is so much faster. And with the SF connector, it is both fast like Evernote and part of SF.
  • Snapping photos of paper to add to notes. I have almost no paper in my life because of this. Clients hand me printouts of things, I snap a photo and add to the Evernote, and hand the paper back to the client. I go to get my oil changed, I snap a picture of the paperwork and put it in an Evernote. Can't remember last time I got my Sienna's oil changed? Just search Evernote for Sienna. I've also been known to snap photos of presentations people are giving, add them to an Evernote and then I can see the slide anytime.
  • Fast, easy search. Evernote search works really well, and even manages to search images if they're full of text. (That part isn't perfect, but come on.) Compared to any CRM with rather rigid search requirements, evernote feels flexible and almost mind-reading in comparison.
  • Available on any device.
  • The presentation mode is new, and has lots of potential. I'd like to see the ability to modify notes while in presentation mode. I think when that is available, I'll give up power point entirely. I admit this isn't a sacrifice on my part, since I've never been much of a ppt user.
  • I honestly can't think of anything else.

  • Since the same Evernote account syncs real-time between my various devices, I have whatever content I need easily accessible from anywhere I'm living, working and playing.
  • Evernote's superior search capabilities make it seamless for me to quickly and easily locate whatever information I need from my Evernote database.
  • I can more easily get more done in less time by using Evernote, including adding content and sharing content with others. Particularly helpful in this enhancement to my productivity would be how any specific note can include all different mediums of content, like web clippings, typing, checklists, an audio note and an annotated photo together.
  • While being able to email new content into my Evernote account is extremely helpful, the email functionality can sometimes be temperamental, viewing different content as spam than what I would classify as such.
  • The biggest struggle with Evernote is that the various functionality is a little different (and has different imagery associated with accessing) on each different device, meaning Mac versus iOS versus PC versus Android, etc. If you know what you want to do, you can figure out how to do it on a different platform, but there can be a learning curve.

  • I use Evernote to keep notes on children's activities I've researched.
  • I store information on rental properties I manage including tenants name and utility information.
  • I also keep notes on trips I am researching, for example, campgrounds, restaurants and tours.
  • I tried using the share feature for the Notebooks but we ran into syncing issues. We solved the problem by condensing all of the information into one user account and sharing the password.
  • I wish it interfaced with Google Maps.

  • It gives me quick access to my notes from all of my many devices.
  • It loads fast, gets the job done, then gets out of the way.
  • I has an ecosystem of plugins and other applications, of which I use several.
  • The free version is more than sufficient for everything that I use it for. But the paid version has some obvious advantages.
  • I would like to be able to do more markup, maybe html or markdown, there are ways to get this done, but they are a pain to use.
  • The tables are weak, it would be very handy to have a spreadsheet note type.
  • I use the desktop client a lot on my Windows machines, I would love to see a Linux version too.
  • It would be helpful to have 2 step authentication and encrypted storage. Then I would feel more comfortable storing things like passwords or personal information on their systems.

  • Ability to sync latest version of any type of information across multiple platforms
  • Ability to classify information for easy discovery based on tags, notebooks and location
  • Simplified and clutter-free user interface/design that allows the user to easily capture relevant information and quickly tag for future discovery
  • Capture plugin for internet browser is convenient and very easy to use
  • Needs better "to-do list" capability. Latest release has reminder feature but software is still lacking native to-do list tracking
  • Lacks advanced formatting options for text
  • Places limitations on monthly upload amounts

  • Keeps track of information seamlessly across devices and platforms. For example, I use the Windows Desktop app, the Mac Desktop app, and the Android Mobile app. And, if all else fails, there's a web interface too!
  • LOTS of different and interesting ways to create new notes when in a hurry - send a Tweet or an email, clip from your web browser, or use your trusty mobile widget, to name a few.
  • My information stays private - they'll never use my notes content to serve me ads.
  • Lists with checkboxes could really use some work. It's gotten tons better but going between desktop and mobile still really screws with the line spacing. It's not a deal-breaker, just a minor annoyance.
  • Would be nice if the Windows and Mac interfaces were more similar. It works well in both environments but still looks like two different programs.

  • Syncs across devices effortlessly.
  • Works well as an external brain; it lets you store everything you couldn't imagine remembering (thousands of emails, contacts, addresses, meeting notes, articles, etc) and putting it not just in the palm of your hand but in ONE application, to be searched whenever you need it.
  • Allows you to organize notes multiple ways, through stacks/notebooks, and via tagging them by topic.
  • Functionality is getting a bit clunky, it might be a bit hypocritical to praise how it can be a catch-all external brain and then complain about how its unwieldy sometimes but if you're a fan of extreme minimalism and bare bones note saving you might be better off with something else.
  • It can turn into a shoebox stuffed with anything and everything if you don't organize it yourself
  • The mobile application can be glitchy sometimes when taking snapshots or if you have a single note open on multiple devices at the same time.

  • Easy to take notes on iPad.
  • It is able to save Audios.
  • Nice to organize attached files.
  • I use Evernote mostly for my individual notes. I don't think Evernote is very good for note sharing. It's so difficult to share the note in Evernote. For those who don't use Evernote, it is not easy for them to read and edit the note.

  • AUTOMATIC & SYSTEMATIC EMAIL ORGANIZATION: Any email can be sent to one's Evernote account via a unique Evernote email address assigned when you set up your account. By blind copying your Evernote email address when you send important emails, you can keep all your important emails in one place, where they can be accessed by any of your web-connected devices. Having instant access in the cloud is outstanding. Further, you can assign specific Notebooks, Tags, and even Reminders to emails that you send to your Evernote email address with a simple system set up by Evernote that utilizes the "@, #, and !" symbols in the subject line. I LOVE IT! For emails that I receive that are important, I siply hit "Forward" and then send them to my Evernote account with the proper coding for Notebook, Tags, and Reminders.
  • MULTI-PLATFORM INSTANT SYNCHRONIZATION: I work on my iPhone, iPad, and laptop intermittently throughout the day. I have Evernote loaded on all of them. Whenever I enter something on any of those platforms, it is instantly synchonized with the other platforms. I don't have to worry about which device I have. My notes are with me.
  • POST-IT(R) NOTE CAMERA: OK, I am biased here, as I work on the solution that Post-it(r) has with Evernote, but this is a really useful tool that I love, really. I take meeting notes all day long on Post-it(r) Big Pads that measure 11" x 11". They are Limeade colored, which is one of the 4 colors of Post-it(r) Notes recognized by the built-in Post-it(r) Note Camera that is included with the free version of Evernote. When I get back to my desk, I simply open the Post-it(r) Note Camera and instantly capture my meeting notes in Evernote. They are automatically filed in my "Meeting Notes" Notebook in Evernote, as I told Evernote to put Limeade Post-it(r) Notes there. Further, my handwritten notes become searchable by the character recognition built into Evernote. Then, I can access my notes anywhere or share them with others in a flash. It's awesome.
  • BUSINESS CARD CAMERA: Evernote has a new and improved feature that allows you to instantly capture business cards, upload contact details from the person's LinkedIn profile, and even send an invitation to connect with a person directly from Evernote. It is a seamless and impressive integration.
  • DIFFERENT LOOK & FUNCTIONALITY ON DIFFERENT PLATFORMS: I use Evernote on a PC, Mac, iPad, iPhone, and the Web. The user interface across these 5 platforms varies. Even the basic functionality varies from one platform to another. I have been frustrated by this at times, but I have always been able to figure thing out in the past.
  • EMAIL SIZE LIMITATION: I am an Evernote Premium Subscriber ($45 annually, 1GB monthly data synchronization). Still, I can only email files that are 5MB or less to my Evernote account. This seems very old fashioned and behind the times.
  • IMPROVED CHARACTER RECOGNITION: My handwriting is not great. Hence, Evernote does not read my handwriting very precisely when I am searching for a note. I wish that I could "teach" Evernote how I write certain words. This would allow it to find my notes better.

  • Glitch-Free. Since I've started using Evernote, I have not had one problem with it. It also updates when it needs to. I don't have keep pressing buttons or look through menus for an endless amount of time.
  • Fast. The fact that the speed is phenomenal with both using the application and syncing, you can't go wrong. After I create a note, I always sync and it's usually done so fast, I never have to worry about losing information.
  • User Interface is straight forward and there are no "hidden" useless learning curves. I'm so impressed with Evernote.
  • The Mastering Evernote feature should be changed to a tutorial and able to be shut off completely.

  • The integration with their mobile application.
  • Other applications and add-ons that are free help make Evernote even more useful. Their Evernote Food application is great for organizing recipes.

  • Sync notes across multiple platforms making them available to users at all times.
  • Organizing notes into different notebooks and further enabling you to tag notes for effortless searching.
  • Ability to make instant updates on all devices.
  • Ability to embed photos, pdfs and web site URLs directly into notes.
  • Difficult to move content within a note (ie re-arrange bullet points, etc.). Ideally bulleted and numbered lists could be re-arranged with drag and drop functionality. This is especially difficult to do currently on smartphones and tablets (much easier with a mouse).
  • Desktop client seems to need to be synced manually (or automatic syncs are much less frequent than mobile app syncs).
  • I like the web site "Clipper" utility but it doesn't always provide the desired result. It would be nice if it had an option to capture a screen shot of an area of a web page.

  • It's great for searching/finding keywords in documents.
  • Organize the documents in a controlled way. The benefit of Evernote is it is more like Google - no structure just use search. The downside is if you don't know the right words to search for you might not find what you are looking for. If you are used to a Windows folder metaphor, it takes a bit of getting used to.
