What is Schoology Learning?

Schoology, now a PowerSchool Unified Classroom product, is a learning management system (LMS). Schoology’s platform is built specifically for the needs of K-12 students, teachers, and administrators. Schoology aims to combine as many parts of the learning process as possible into a single platform. By doing this they aim to simplify the learning experience for students, parents, and teachers.

The Basic Package is free for instructors and includes features such as an Academic Activity Dashboard, Instructional Tools, and a Native Document Grader. The Enterprise Package includes the Basic Package and additional features such as Systemwide Administration, User Management, and Workload Planning.

PowerSchool acquired Schoology in late 2019.

Overview of Schoology Features

Schoology focuses on student mastery of learning objectives by offering a proficiency model of grading and traditional numeric grades. Through their online platform, it is simple to deliver assessments to students regardless of their location. Assessments are flexible and can be quick quizzes, locally-created benchmarks, or district-wide assessments.

Through Schoology’s built-in data and analytics, educators can determine what is working and what is not at several different levels. The reports generated give information at both the class and school level and can be used by teachers to determine how their students are doing, as well as administrators to ensure that all students school-wide are on track. Reports can be shared via a secure URL, and access is filtered based on staff permissions

Schoology aims to ensure effective communication between parents and educators. Teachers can send weekly digests about classroom activities. Parents can instantly access their students' grades to get an idea of their child’s full learning experience.

Per the vendor, Schoology is easy to use in combination with other learning tools and comes with over 200 native integrations. Educators can use said tools to quickly create assignments. Courses can be built from scratch, or educators can use Schoology’s content library that contains over 300 applications. Courses can be easily shared with other teachers or can be re-used across multiple academic years.

Collaboration is encouraged between teachers through the Public Groups pages on Schoology. These are community pages where educators can share ideas, ask questions and learn from each other.

Tailored Education Solutions

Schoology aims to create a highly tailored educational experience for students that ensures that they meet learning objectives in the way that works best for them. By offering personalized pacing, students can work through the material at the speed that suits their individual needs.

Educators also have the option of creating lessons that give students a choice in how they learn the material. Students can select the tasks that suit their learning style, and a grade for that lesson appears in the grade book, regardless of which task was selected.

Schoology also emphasizes the importance of collaboration between students, even in a remote learning environment. The Groups feature allows students to communicate and store resources about sports, clubs, etc. outside of their course modules.

Schoology is used by THSD-211 primarily to augment classroom learning activities; assessment, feedback, grading, and communication among others. Schoology is also used to support professional learning, connect students with other learners, and engage parents and advisors in learning processes. Extracurricular teams and clubs use Schoology Groups to communicate and engage participants in relevant activities. Schoology serves as the learning hub for our organization. Students and teachers use Schoology to improve their digital executive functioning, and as a focal point of their personal learning environments.
  • Schoology is an easy-to-learn, effective learning management system. It is particularly good at allowing teachers to provide blended, and individualized learning experiences.
  • Schoology's open API allows flexibility, and adaptability for both the user and the organization. It is intended to accommodate and integrate, existing tools, not replace them.
  • Schoology provides opportunities for learners, young and older, to extend learning beyond the time and space constraints of the traditional classroom.
  • Schoology's learning communities are enthusiastic, generous, and collaborative.
  • The "look" or appearance of Schoology is improving, but there is still room to improve the look and function of Schoology.
  • I would like to see more capabilities for users to customize their Schoology experience. In particular, being able customize the features tied to the user's profile.
  • Schoology could provide additional "help" options when hovering over buttons.
Schoology is very accommodating to a variety of settings and users. I suspect Schoology is better suited to upper grades and higher education than early primary grades. I can also see Schoology being used by businesses to support training programs, and collaborative projects. Personally, I am interested in learning more about ways in which Schoology can support global learning activities.

Schoology is currently used by my organization as our official learning management system. We utilize Schoology to house our curriculum, enable collaboration between stakeholders, and provide teachers with the tools needed to effectively implement a blended learning environment. The tool is being used across the organization and all teachers will be expected to utilize it (in various ways) beginning in the fall. Schoology addresses our need for a product that provides increased integration of instructional opportunities including accommodations, modifications, online coursework, research, video, audio, grading, and other instructional and learning enhancements that will provide greater engagement for students. It also enables us to increase student engagement and a central location to house or curriculum and associated resources.
  • Supports collaboration between stakeholders.
  • Provides a central location to share resources.
  • Supports differentiation of instruction.
  • Promotes student engagement.
  • The addition of more options to change the visual aspect of text.
Schoology is well suited as a tool to support technology integration and collaboration by stakeholders.

Schoology is Culver Academies' LMS. We use it for more than just courses, though. It has become the go-to tool for managing athletic teams, dorms/barracks, student clubs, spiritual life services, faculty professional development, resource sharing, and campus-wide communication.
  • Ability to re-use materials year-to-year.
  • Easy to customize the organization of your materials.
  • More than a storage repository - great interactive features such as discussions and ability to record video/audio.
  • Great ability to personalize grading setups - creation of custom grading scales, rubrics, and mastery learning objectives.
  • Schoology has made many improvements in the 5 years I've used it.
  • One area that needs work is the calendar feature. This is not as robust as their other elements.
  • Schoology does allow rubric creation, and they are flexible with number of criteria, scales used, etc. But the creation tool is a bit clunky.
  • Schoology has great question types for assessment, but it would be nice if it were easier to import questions from external sources.
I really think Schoology is an excellent LMS.

Our district did a soft rollout of Schoology this year, meaning it was an option for all 1200 staff members. Students in our district have Chromebook devices 24/7 and many teachers were excited to hear more about how this new tool could engage their students and impact learning in their classrooms. The ITS department offered several opportunities in the Summer and Fall for staff to come and hear more about this new tool, Schoology, (mispronounced by most in the beginning). Teachers quickly discovered that Schoology could be a digital hub for their classroom. It has been so exciting to help teachers discover the plethora of ways that Schoology can engage students, provide valuable formative and summative assessment data tied to learning targets, personalize learning, encourage ongoing collaboration via discussions and assignment feedback, tie pictures and videos to curricular goals via media albums, and easily share the awesome resources they create by joining Schoology Groups….the list could go on. I believe that much of the success our teachers are experiencing with Schoology is due to the choice to get on board when they are ready. The boat is getting full as word spreads and more teachers make the jump every day.
  • Schoology provides a "toolbox" to house all of the "tools" that teachers need access to in a 1:1 district. Assignments, assessments, rubrics, gradebook, feedback, calendar....all in one place!
  • Schoology allows teachers to meet the needs of every student by personalizing instruction and meeting the needs of all learners.
  • The ability to tie learning targets to questions makes it possible to know where students are at with their learning at all times.
  • The tools that are at your fingertips in Schoology make it easy to take stagnant activities and make them engaging in no time!
  • I would love a few more option in the Standards Based Grading Area of Mastery
  • I think Rubrics for students to self-assess would be a great addition!
We are a 1:1 Chromebook District and Schoology is exactly what our teachers needed to teach in online and blended environments. It is one stop shop that can house all resources for all classes.

Schoology is used by my entire school district K-12 as well as for professional development. The groups feature within Schoology has also been instrumental in bringing all of our department resources in one location. It allows our students a one-stop shop for their course materials, submission of assignments, conversing in a group/class/school discussion, and providing messaging between staff, students, and parents. The free APP is integral for our high school students, who like to be able to check their grades quickly on their phone or message their teacher with a question or concern. It has been instrumental in keeping students up-to-date with school activities and the calendar features along with the group/course/school updates provides students with the necessary information to be prepared for their school day.
  • Schoology's ease of use is its number 1 strength. It is user-friendly and takes only a short while for users to figure out how to add materials and get their class started on using this impressive LMS.
  • Schoology's assessments are spot on and the ability to attach our standards to these assessments allows the teacher to see exactly how their students are progressing through the standards toward course/content mastery.
  • Schoology's portfolios for student work is super easy to use and travels with the student. It is simply amazing
  • I would love to see their badging could be set to automatically occur after students finish a learning pathway/student completion.
Schoology is suited well for hybrid/blended, flipped, or online classrooms where students need to work independently with online materials. It really can work well with classrooms where the students have a device to use use each day. It would be incredibly difficult to use in an area without reliable wifi/internet access.

The Diocese of San Bernardino uses Schoology in their parishes to address time constraints in faith formation. Our "Schoology Parishes" use the online platform to do flip classroom, differentiated learning, and seamless learning. We also use Schoology in our Ministry Formation Institute (aka MFI) (university-style faith formation) and as professional development for our Directors of Religious Education. Recently, six of our schools have agreed to pilot the Enterprise version of Schoology. For the 2017-2018 school year, these six schools will transition their curriculum to a hybrid format. Schoology allows the Diocese of San Bernardino to address the learner at multiple levels.--Inside the Schoology platform an individual can have multiple roles: they can be an instructor of a course, a student of another course, and parent of a student. Schoology allows our teachers and students inside our vast diocese to connect via groups. We can create Professional Learning Networks (PLN's) as well as vicariate/ cluster groups for our students.
  • Intuitive - easily learned.
  • Aesthetically appealing - the layout of information is easy on the eyes. There isn't a "clutter" of information on the screen.
  • Schoology needs peer assessment.
  • Schoology needs a "plan book" (Curriculum mapping).
  • Schoology needs a way to connect their plan book to assignments.
  • Schoology needs a way to connect their (future) plan book to assignments.
Schoology is suited for institutions that want to move to an online learning environment; whether it is hybrid or completely online. It is not well suited for institutions that want to house their student information on their own servers. Schoology frees up certain backend IT issues for your IT team. But you have to be willing to allow your information to be stored on Schoology's servers.

I am an Instructional Tech Coach for Lowndes County School District in Mississippi. When our district decided to start a 1:1 initiative, we knew we would need an LMS. We reviewed several programs and even met with a couple of different representatives. Once we narrowed the choice down to two LMS's and they both "pitched" to all of our administrators and lead teachers, the team voted 99% to go with Schoology. Schoology is very intuitive and for teachers who were "tech shy" it was an easier transition because it reminded them of a social media platform. We have just finished our 2nd year and it has been amazing. Schoology is one of the only programs that I have seen that is appropriate K-12. They are also always adapting and improving what they are doing. If you are looking for an LMS, Schoology will fit your needs.
  • Platform is grades K-12 friendly
  • Program is intuitive and easy to use
  • Wonderful app
  • Schoology is always improving their product
  • Great support staff
  • When putting in assignments they do not always [appear] the way you have entered them in, but adding due dates will line them up in an order you want.
  • Adding images takes several steps within assignments and tests.
I would have originally said that testing is very reflective of paper and pencil tests, but Schoology is rolling out new assessments features for the Enterprise version this fall. The gradebook is not set up for a Student Information System. You still need that to run report cards and gather data.

Hebrew College uses Schoology in all of its departments including its high school program and adult ed program. Being able to teach and share programming globally is a core mission of the College and Schoology aids the college to meet its mission. In addition, we can hire top notch faculty across the globe without the ensuring costs of having the professor on campus. Schoology also has created opportunities for faculty to learn from other users - over 18 million users to date! As such, pedagogy, reflective practice and networking is at an all-time high.
  • Intuitive platform. Based on Facebook, the usability of the program is fairly easy for all learning groups, from those in their 90s to their early teens.
  • Flexibility. The ability to embed 3rd party apps allows students to have a more enhanced learning experience and for all types of learners to access the material.
  • Community. Through groups and discussion boards all stakeholder groups (teachers, students) can learn from one another and create CoPs.
  • Flexibility. The ability to embed many 3rd party apps to enhance the learning experience allows for numerous possibilities when it comes to student output and learning.
  • Mobile. Schoology's app allows for students and teachers to work remotely thus truly flattening the traditional classroom walls.
  • Community. Having access to 18 million users creates opportunities to have several CoPs (communities of practice) and build their PLNs (personalized learning networks).
Schoology is useful for creating meaningful learning and collaborative opportunities. It is also a place to find educational resources and experts in a variety of fields. While its entry into business learning is nascent, the potential is there for businesses to use Schoology for training purposes.

Currently, Schoology is the learning management system across our school district, EC-12. Although, in grades 9-12, staff has the option to use Moodle in addition to Schoology. Schoology is being used in all facets of our educational system from classrooms, site leaders, groups/clubs, professional development, district information, etc. It is truly our platform to house all resources and relevant information.
For us, it streamlines our workflow. In the past, we've had teachers/staff working from several different platforms. It was difficult for staff to manage which system housed which set of information. Schoology has allowed us to ensure a one-stop shop for all school/work related items. If staff need bus schedules, curriculum content, online professional development, etc., they will find it all on Schoology. Schoology has addressed an organizational and management piece that was missing from our school system.
  • Schoology allows for a variety of content to be embedded and uploaded into Schoology. From a teaching standpoint, this truly allows for personalization of learning. Teachers are able to offer multiple modalities of learning all through one platform. Students are given a voice and choice in how they want to demonstrate their learning, as a result of the aforementioned.
  • Schoology continually grows and changes with their clients. As users request features, Schoology spends time researching and vetting these within the platform. In the three years we have used Schoology, we have noticed several new and positive changes. The changes Schoology has made have not been just to make changes, but rather to address the needs of the clientele. This shows that Schoology is willing to listen to its users and ready to adapt.
  • Schoology is user friendly. We spent quite a bit of time researching and exploring other learning management system. We continually came back to the idea that Schoology would be easy enough for our staff to learn and adapt to. Most things are relatively straightforward, but Schoology has a robust help center, as well as a public resources center. The options to connect with other Schoology users are endless. As a result, it is easy to learn and continue to grow within the Schoology platform.
  • It would be great to see Schoology continue to develop their mobile app. Their web version is great, but the mobile app lags behind. As a 1:1 iPad (K-8) school district, increasing this functionality would truly allow our students to use the app to its fullest potential.
  • Schoology has a badging system which is perfect for gamification. However, those badges currently must be entered manually. While it is a not a game changer, automated badging would continue to improve the system. This would allow teachers/staff to create gamified and engaging courses.
  • There are some minor gradebook enhancements that would also help to improve the functionality of Schoology. Despite the fact that users can create separate grade categories, there is no way to view the overall grade for just one specific category. The basic functionality of the gradebook is there, but there are minor adjustments that would truly make the platform robust.
  • Schoology does not integrate with Campus, which is our current system for grading. This would be a huge help to us, as just another way to make workflow more efficient.
I cannot think of a scenario in which Schoology would not be well-suited. There are several teachers who have questioned how Schoology can be used in a primary classroom. However, we constantly see students in K-2 grade taking full advantage of Schoology. The addition of colored folders and the ability to upload images to the folders has been a definite help from a primary perspective. Schoology is great for classrooms, staff, clubs, groups, etc.

I have used Schoology for five years in my classroom. We have used Schoology Enterprise for the past four years as a school district. Schoology is by far the best learning management system for PreK-University Level.
  • Ease of use for teachers, students and parents. Very low learning curve for class and content creation.
  • The Schoology Educators community is an active, robust group that share ideas on everything from troubleshooting to lesson plan sharing.
  • Easy integration with many tools including: Google, Nearpod, Youtube and much more.
  • Outstanding customer service!
  • Some small issues: Being able to lock entire folders, test/quiz feature ability to edit question more easily.
Schoology is well suited for all grade levels of teaching. There are many ways to implement simply at the elementary level for communications and housing important assignments. At the secondary and university level Schoology is an optimal solution as a learning management system.

Our high school has been piloting Schoology since September of 2016. In the fall of 2017 we will be fully implementing the this Learning Management System and the middle school will begin a pilot. We are a 1:1 high school using iPads and finding a consistent workflow has been important. Implementing Schoology will create one place where students, teachers, administrators and parents go to for almost everything school related.
  • Schoology not only allows you to connect with your students it also allows you to connect with fellow educators from around the world.
  • Schoology is very easy to use and maintain.
  • The calendar feature is incredibly helpful for students.
  • There are a few minor features that I'd like to see added, but Schoology continues to improve their product on a regular basis. It is a good time to be using Schoology with new assessment features coming out and new Google Drive integration!
It is going to be fantastic for all students and teachers to have one common interface.

The Archbishop of York Youth Trust has been running social action awards for over 5 years throughout the north of the UK. However, our vision was to allow the award to run by any school internationally. After a comprehensive analysis of LMS and VLE platforms, we settled on schoology. The platform we chose needed to allow for excellent communication, a superb facility to deliver excellent bespoke content and equally as important the facility to collect both teacher and student evidence. We needed a platform we could lock down where needed and open up if required. Schoology ticked all out specific boxes.
  • A huge community of teachers and learners looking to sharing their experience and support one another in the usage of the platform.
  • A recognisable user interface which makes the learning curve for new users simple and intuitive.
  • Superb flexibility to create bespoke learning environments for teachers and learners.
  • Some limitation of iframe embed due to the HTTPS protocol requirement. Use of HTML code editor often strips the inclusion of more advanced features such as Java functions.
  • Limitation toe badge and gamification of learning.
  • Currently, the Assessments tools are limited (new tools coming for 2017) and LTI integration not fully functional, relying on apps developers to plug the gaps.
Schoology works best for a whole school setting where different ability levels of instructors and learners will be accessing the platform. Especially suited to an establishment which intends to develop a blended learning and learning self-paced learning approach outside of the classroom. A school which confidently uses mobile apps and digital technologies will find schoology a healthy addition to their collection of digital tools.

We use the enterprise version of Schoology district wide. I was one of the early adopters and have been working to help train other teachers and administrators in our district. We use it for a myriad of purposes. I personally use it as an LMS for all of my classes in addition to creating groups for the different clubs and activities that I advise. Recently we have added groups for things like book studies and resource sharing across districts. Having an LMS serve as a host to all of the information we need to house, really makes our classes, groups and activities accessible 24/7 and from any device.
  • Allowing for many different types of activities to be accessible 24/7.
  • Integration with Google Drive and Microsoft One Note.
  • Being device agnostic.
  • Ease of use by both students and staff.
  • Response time to tickets.
  • Badging could be improved if there was a way to bulk manage them and if they would auto assign.
It has transformed how I teach. It enables me to continue the learning experience for my students if I am out. It allows me to have a class that functions beyond just the 40 minutes that I am face to face with my students. It allows my students to work asynchronously and on their own time schedule. No longer do things have to be handed in by 2:30, they can be digitally submitted at any point. The calendar not only helps the students and I to stay organized, but it allows me to house everything we need for that day in one central location.

We provide innovative professional learning opportunities throughout the school year and over the summer for educators. Also, most compliance trainings are now delivered through Schoology. These trainings once required using in-service time, but now, by completing the trainings in Schoology, our teachers are able to dedicate more of the in-service time to focus on best practices for teaching and learning, while improving classroom results. We continue to find creative, innovative, and efficient ways to use Schoology to make District 49 the best choice to learn, work, and lead.
  • Schoology is a powerful and efficient collaborative tool. It provides an easy to use platform for sharing conversation, ideas, and resources.
  • Schoology is a virtual classroom that supports blended learning or full virtual learning.
  • Schoology is great for creating self grading assessments.
  • Schoology will make huge strides when it fully integrates Google Docs into the platform, which will reduce the overall workflow.
  • Schoology can improve test/quiz items by providing additional interactive question types.
  • Schoology can improve performance by creating a more robust data dash board.
Schoology is specifically strong in the areas of collaboration for student learning and especially professional development. Schoology is not set up for gaming, yet.

Schoology is being used by our entire school district (K-12). Teachers are using it to assess student learning, share resources and communicate with each other. As we begin to add more parents to the system it will be used to communicate with parents as well and can help bring transparency to what is happening in schools.
  • Digital content sharing
  • Digital Assessment Options
  • Digital Community and Online PLCs
  • Badging system is not open.
  • The ability to export and printing out rubrics and tests (can do this but it takes up a lot of space) but for students without computer access.
  • Has several mobile apps but they all don't function the same (i.e. iOS users can edit items in their Schoology calendars while Android users cannot.).
Schoology is great for schools that are 1:1 or BYOD; it is harder to use as an instructional tool in K-2 classrooms that have little to no computer access.

Schoology is being used in my school by all teachers to manage their classroom. It allows the class to run more efficiently, thus spending more time with the students to deepen their understanding of materials. Teachers are using this learning management system to receive work, send students to websites, give assessments, and much more!
  • One stop shop! Schoology allows their users not to venture far from the website. Many sites are embeddable including YouTube and other Google products. This allows our students to stay on one site without getting lost through the many steps of the internet.
  • Groups! Schoology gives teachers the ability to collaborate with their groups function.
  • Public resources! Do you need a lesson plan for 7th grade social studies? Check out Schoology's public resources to see how other teachers have taught specific subject matter.
  • Organization of resources in groups. More functions can be added to sort resources when you are in the groups section.
If you have computers in a school district, Schoology is a must! We did not have a learning management system for 2 years when we had our laptops. It made sending and receiving files between teachers and students very difficult. Schoology allows our elementary teachers to receive work and personalize assignments for students.

Schoology is being used by our entire organization in a variety of ways. We are using it to inform and educate our school community. It enables us to centralize information so that everyone has access. It also enables us to provide information in multiple languages, the primary languages being American Sign Language and English. It helps to streamline and organize the many facets of academic life; for students, for educators, and for parents.
  • Schoology has wonderful organizational features. The layout is easy to understand and almost everything can be color-coded.
  • Schoology has multiple ways to provide information such as updates, discussions, and media albums. You can also add files, links, and video/audio recordings made directly within the platform.
  • Schoology's calendar is user-friendly and any changes made from the administrative side are also changed for the members, keeping everyone updated in real time.
  • There are layers to the multiple features of Schoology. Something can seem so basic, but it's deceptively simple: there always seems to be more you can do with the information you're imparting, such as leveling the language for readers of different competencies.
  • At the moment, there are no notifications provided for Group Discussions, but it is something I know Schoology is working to fix.
  • Also at the moment, there is a limitation to how long a video file may be left unsubmitted within a Test/Quiz before it becomes corrupted and must be redone. Schoology is also aware of and working on this issue.
Schoology is the way to go for any academic setting. Even at the preschool level, there are ways to leverage the system so that both students and parents receive the full benefit of its features. It's most effective, I feel, at the middle school to high school level and even into higher education. Students have a better sense of technology by then and are able to utilize more features than those at the preschool or elementary levels.

We've been utilizing Schoology to bridge the gap of classroom to student collaboration and communication. Over the past 4 years, using Schoology, we have been able to go online with blended digital lessons from our teachers and allow students to engage with their own learning at their own pace. Students are able to create, share and save resources independently and submit work for revision or review. Online collaboration features allow students and teachers to engage in discussions that are threaded and "above board" so everyone can follow along. We also use synchronization services to allow students' grades to populate into our PowerSchool SIS environment, which has been beneficial to teachers and saves time eliminating double entry.
  • Schoology handles communications and notifications beautifully. Keeps everyone informed in a classroom of what is going on and who has posted what.
  • Additional third party applications are awesome. No need to sign out to use Google, TurnitIn, Khan Academy, etc. They are built in giving users access to the tools they use most within the LMS.
  • Roster automation is great. This has reduced the backend load of technicians and data experts having to organize files from the SIS to import on a scheduled task rotation. A few clicks and you are ready for the school year to begin.
  • Gradebook sync needs some help. Schoology updates the platform frequently which is good, but not all key problem areas are addressed in each update. They could raise this rating a bit by getting back to core functionality resolutions first, then added user experiences second.
We started at a "free" version trial and scaled up to an enterprise-wide solution in a K-12. Their dedicated integration specialists made sure it was a seamless transition. This works for independent classrooms all the way up to districtwide initiatives. My recommendation is to get colleagues on board and pay for the enterprise functionality. It saves time in the end and provides useful tools for support and analytics.

Schoology is our solution for Blended Classrooms, to enhance collaboration between students and teachers and to enhance communication between teachers and parents. Currently we use Schoology from grades 2-12 with plans to go prek-12 in the future. We are expanding the use of Schoology to include delivering Professional Development (online at your own pace, and supporting F2F PD with storage for resources) to all teachers. We also are creating courses only for parents (currently host a course for the high school PTSA) to support communication and collaboration.
  • Schoology's ease of use is amazing. Teachers need very little professional development in order to become proficient users. It is very intuitive, which helps teachers discover functionalities on their own.
  • Schoology's support is the best I have ever experienced. Any users has several supports, from joining the Schoology Educators Group, use of a comprehensive knowledge base system, to being able to submit a ticket with a less than a day turn around. Schoology is a company that truly stands behind their product by making customer service and support a priority.
  • Schoology is consistently improving. They recognize that their product must evolve with their customers
  • Would love to see (coming soon I hear) is a better way to collect/rate users suggestions for improvements.
Schoology is more than a learning management system. It has become our Social Learning Platform. Schoology is our 'go to' solution for mostly all academic and social interactions between students, teachers and parents.

We use Schoology with the 300+ high school interns that we train and hire to work at our corporate partners. We are a non-profit organization that builds and teaches a curriculum independent of schools. During our summer program for the interns, we use Schoology to implement our two training courses. We use Schoology courses to share the syllabi and resources, to track assignments and attendance, for tests, and to engage students in conversations outside of the training room. During the school year, we use Schoology for the same purpose but to implement our college access curriculum instead. Schoology has also been a hub for information sharing with all of our interns, for example, we post student surveys on Schoology and remind them of upcoming events. Before Schoology, we used spreadsheets to track course work and grades and attendance, which you can already assume was time-consuming and not efficient when working with hundreds of students. Schoology has cut down on the time that our trainers and instructors spend managing a course.
  • The overall layout and the logic for the tools are very intuitive; it's easy to find and use the tools in Schoology. I received a one hour training on how to use Schoology from a Schoology representative and from there, I was able to figure out what I needed to do to set up courses, the grade book, etc... There are so many resources online to help me figure out how to do what I need.
  • Schoology tools keep improving! For example, when I first started using Schoology, copying courses was a manual process (I had to enter every assignment due date in the copied courses). Now I can choose to duplicate everything in a course; copying courses now take less than 5 minutes each. This extremely helpful when you have to create the exact same course 15 times.
  • The Schoology support team is very helpful and prompted; every time I submit a case online, I get a response within the same day. They either let me know what's going on if there is an issue across all of Schoology or help me address the concerns I have with my organization's Schoology account.
  • This summer, there were many instances of Schoology not working well in certain offices; apparently the wireless/security setup at one of our training sites was interfering with access to Schoology and our staff and students experienced delays when loading Schoology pages or sometimes Schoology did not load at all. Schoology was unable to help with this because the concern was on our end.
  • Schoology moves quickly to make updates to the site, however, it can be hard to keep up. This summer, I realized that administrative admins for the entire "school" can create grading periods; we have five "buildings" and admins of those buildings need to be able to create their own grading periods, which are all different. This was an update that I didn't know until our building admins were unable to create grading periods. Had we known earlier, we would've planned for it; this delayed course creations at all of our sites. It is very easy for updates to get lost in the Schoology newsletters; there should be a more effective way of communicating changes/updates, especially to enterprise users.
Schoology works well for courses that meet regularly and frequently. We have a course that spans 9 months and classes are every other week; this makes it very challenging to keep students engaged in between the classes. There also needs to be an admin that focuses on engaging students outside of specific courses to keep the momentum going; the more you use the tool, the more students will use it.

We use Schoology as a platform for our teachers to host courses. Many of our teachers use it for quizzes and tests so that they don't have to grade by hand any more. Teachers host notes and other documents so that we save paper and students no longer have to lose items at home. Our sports coaches host their notes as well for their teams on their own course sites on our Schoology platform. We also have departments set up to use Schoology for PLCs. We have even begun hosting principal videos on principal "courses" where principals can put important documents and then post videos as needed to save teachers the time that they used to have to stay for afternoon meetings!
  • We love being able to copy courses from semester to semester so that we don't have to redo all of the work each semester.
  • Schoology is really easy to learn, there's not much training needed for new users.
  • The platform is really fun for students to use.
  • We would like to be able to tie the gradebook in with our current gradebook.
  • We don't like the attendance feature.
We absolutely love Schoology. I think it's one of the best LMS products on the market. It looks like Facebook, so students and teachers WANT to jump in and use it. It's super easy to jump in and figure out. It allows copying of courses from semester to semester, so your work is worthwhile. Tech support is very friendly and accommodating. We have been so happy with our decision. I wouldn't change to anything else.

We use Schoology school-wide at a Catholic private high school. All of our faculty use it to facilitate learning - adding resources, listing events, communicating updates, and assessing learning with online quizzes and tests. It has definitely fixed our previous problems of not have a central location for our learning resources and grades.
  • Online quizzes and tests, with custom question banks and the ability to import from Blackboard or test generators
  • Updates and communication; looks and works like Facebook
  • Being a 1-to-1 school with many different devices, Schoology works on all platforms and works very well
  • Syncing between Schoology and our School Information System (SIS) has not been very smooth. Syncing can be hit-or-miss, and it does not sync Standard Based Grades.
Schoology is perfect for all K-12 schools looking for a learning management system that is easy-to-use and works on all platforms. We had used Blackboard previously, and it was a pain for our faculty. Schoology makes it easy for teachers to upload learning resources and do so for all of their course sections. We also use it for many clubs and groups on campus. I highly recommend it to any educator!

I use it as a parent currently, but previously my entire organization used it. We used it to create assessments, communicate with parents and students, and to hold information about students, families, and our own work.
  • Easy to create assessments for online courses
  • Keeps all information in one place
  • Easy as a parent to access information about students
  • I would have liked more technical support as I was first learning how to use it
  • More layout options for assesssments
I think it works great in the education industry, but have not had experience using it in any other industry. I'm not sure if it was meant for that or if there are other features that could be used outside of education.

My current school district has been using the Enterprise version of Schoology for the last two years. This learning management system is being used by administrators, teachers, and students throughout various grade and content levels. This LMS is being used for general announcements, parent communication, as well as to house online classroom content, as well as for professional development purposes.
  • Schoology has a fantastic user support system. Whether through email, social media, or the help center, the people at Schoology do their best to communicate and support their users.
  • The Schoology LMS has clearly been made with the needs of individual learners in mind. The ability to create and assign course content to specific groups within a course helps to properly reach special education students, gifted students, and everyone in between.
  • The Schoology App allows teachers to utilize old-school and new-school grading techniques with the ability to grade assignments online and utilize a stylus for adding feedback.
  • The ability to submit and grade assignments online helps teachers to avoid hours spent at a copy machine as well as stacks of papers that must be graded and passed back to students. Once an assignment is graded on Schoology it is immediately documented in the gradebook and students are notified of a newly graded item.
  • The Schoology App needs to better reflect the desktop version. For example, functions such as badges and portfolios need to be made available through the app.
  • Assignment averages need to be made available for a single section of a course, not just or the course as a whole. This information is needed in order to help students during the process of writing IEP's and PRO6 reports.
  • When grading in the app, a dual screen feature would be helpful in allowing the teacher to see both the assignment being graded and the rubric being used to grade, at the same time.
Though used at varying capacities, Schoology can be utilized through grades K-12 as well as at the higher education level. Schoology is a wonderful LMS that can be used to communicate with parents, colleagues, and to network with other educators. Schoology is a fantastic space for housing the online classroom as well as for professional development purposes. The ability to use Schoology "courses" and "groups" allows a plethora of possibilities.

We are currently using Schoology across the school district. We use it for virtual school, online professional development and blending learning in the physical classrooms. It helps classroom teachers reach each student individually in a more effective manner and allows their classrooms to be student-centered with the students working and creating the products to demonstrate their learning. Our department has created several online professional development opportunities to relay information across the district efficiently. This would not be possible without running a platform like Schoology.
  • Easy to use blended and online learning solution
  • Second to none customer service
  • Remains current and relevant with trends in online learning
  • LTI integration with many different programs such as a lockdown browser or other educational software
  • Providing communities for educators to connect and collaborate
  • Allows adding standards to content for great object analysis of student growth
  • Device agnostic
  • Adding additional question types besides the standard fare
  • Not all state standards have been added to the platform to align with content
Schoology is well suited to any organization currently using a learning management system or looking to implement one for the first time. They will work with you every step of the way whether it is beginning with transferring content from an old system or getting started with training and assisting teachers with creating content for the first time. They rise to the occasion if any problem shows, and I've not seen customer service this great with any other program I've ever used.
