Overall Satisfaction with Adobe Illustrator CC

Illustrator CC is utilized within the Marketing department to create/design/edit collateral. It is used to build business cards, flyers, handouts, web ads, slide decks, etc.
  • Create logos or other vector artwork
  • Design layouts for flyers, brochures, business cards, etc.
  • Provide quick and easy mockups for review/approval
  • The learning curve for Illustrator is high
  • The cost is prohibitive for beginners
  • Allows for standardization of templates, and makes it easy to work with other companies
  • Provides powerful tools to create beautiful documents
  • Inscape and Sketch
Other tools, including some free online tools, are available. However, they are not the industry standard, and don't allow for the flexibility and power that Illustrator has. If you only need/want basic functionality, those are viable alternatives. But if you are working in the design industry, you should really learn and use Illustrator.
Illustrator is the industry standard for a reason. It is incredibly powerful, and offers a full suite of tools and features. The only drawbacks are the steep learning curve, and the cost. For a professional, the cost is easily justified, but for a beginner, it can be prohibitive. If possible, a student license can be used, which is a good way to get into the software to learn.
