Overall Satisfaction with Adobe PhotoShop
As I am charged with the creation of training materials, I am frequently needing to take stock and custom photography and graphic logos and altering them for use in presentations and training materials. While there are other cheaper alternatives, Adobe has been setting the standard on these products for years and they continue to always be the better option. This holds true for available features and quality of processing.
- Image adjustments such as histograms, levels, etc.
- Masking and cropping images
- Layer effects and special processing effects
- On multiple monitor setups, I would like more granular control of where dialog popups appear to minimize trying to find which screen a dialog is on
- The ability to customize and add shortcuts for some functions would streamline workflow
- The ability to define text styles and create text style presets or libraries
- Better brush editing/preview interface to make it easier to work with custom brushes
- The ability to use Adobe PhotoShop allows me to quickly and easily resize artwork and photos for my materials.
- I am able to create commonly used tasks as actions that I can apply to multiple projects as needed
- The ability to automate processes in Adobe PhotoShop while creating content minimizes my time spent.
GIMP is probably the closest in features and function as Adobe PhotoShop. It offers many of the same functionalities. However, I find that it does not run as smoothly. GIMP also does a great job of help files. Adobe PhotoShop has help files, but they can be a little convoluted and hard to find information. GIMP makes it easier for people with little to no knowledge of what they are doing whereas Adobe PhotoShop help caters more toward designers that are already educated/trained in what they are doing.
Affinity is a little more limited than Adobe PhotoShop, but it does offer non-destructive editing by default which is a great feature if you need to work redundancy into your workflow. It also has some great features like integrated panoramic stitching, great HDR merging controls and some neat focus stacking functionality.
