Overall Satisfaction with Arena

We use Arena for BOM management, revision control, and document management. We use it across the organization for implementing drawing and document release. Arena is also used to share information such as drawings and part files with suppliers for manufacturing purposes. Arena is used for tractability for our ISO 9001 certification.

Pros

  • UI has just been updated to be more user-friendly
  • Cloud-based platform means you can access it anywhere
  • Revision control means you can easily track changes for parts/documents

Cons

  • Sometimes the revision of parts effected by a change are not auto-incremented.
  • When viewing multiple changes, it would be good to have a status bar.
  • Great to share design with a large audience for NPI
  • Centralized location for documents helps time to market
  • Revision control and tractability are essential for quality

I did not make the decision to purchase Arena. It was already implemented when I joined the company.
Arena was already implemented successfully when I joined the company.
Arena was more intuitive and had a better interface and user experience than PTC Windchill, though Windchill was great as it had good CAD integration and the CAD PLM was the document PLM, everything was in one place. Windchill also had good customization workflow that integrated with CAD for approvals and pushing information onto the CAD drawing.
Arena is well suited for large organizations that have information to be stored over large geos and different platforms. Arena has limited integration with CAD software, unable to push information onto drawing and cannot store information on a local cache.
