Overall Satisfaction with Cisco Catalyst 9300 Series Switches

So it allows us to connect all of those government departments and the multiple business units that they have. Also, we use this appliance in data centers, either in the data center, the space of the customer or customer, or our on-premises. So native cloud environment. We are also placing some of those devices up there.
  • I think one of the important parts is the catalyst, which I recommend would have quite a lot of flexibility. It gives you traffic segregation very easily. It gives command and control and management is smooth. With the other devices like Meraki and some kind of management through the cloud, that's also a great feature because eventually we're moving towards the cloud and everything needs to be managed through the cloud.
  • One of the things that I would like to see is in the Meraki space, Meraki is a little behind compared to Catalyst because Meraki provides weeks of traffic segregation. That's one of the pain points that we are facing right now. But overall we say that Meraki is comparatively cheaper than the Catalyst. So that could be one of the advantages of that.
  • I would say it looks after the business objective in the sense that we have a rough environment in some sites. Some sites are very refined so it meets the criteria where we don't need to send a truck roll all the time. And as I mentioned, we use quite a large amount of redundancies. So where we need one power supply, we add up another power supply. These are the features that are available in the Cisco appliances. That helps a lot to add more resilience and rigidity and the availability factor is very high because of that.
We have operation centers, so anything that relates to the incident, we go through all of those features. Analytics provides us with quite inside stories and features from a management point of view, that's also being used quite heavily in my organization. That's useful.
We're also going towards the cloud management of all of our appliances and devices, we're also going in that direction where we would like to maximize the use of WIFI and reduce the wired LAN. That is actually a big cost for a site establishment. So we're reducing that with the help of Cisco's 9166 for example, the apps. So this kind of advancement and this kind of feature not only reduces the infrastructure costs but also looks into the FTE or full-time employees. So we use those analytical features that allow us to quickly fix something which we might use multiple resources to fix it. So I think that these are the kind of advantages we are taking out from there.
Interestingly, for the one that I'm working on, we always prefer to go with Cisco, and the reason for that is the sensitivity of the environment and reliability need.

Appropriate from the reliability point of view is reliable, appropriate in relation to performances and performances in relation to wearing temperature and all of those things, that's really good. But then when it comes to the price, Cisco is always expensive. We need to think about how we can make it market competitive price-wise because there are some other features like management these days that are going on the cloud and a lot of other features, are reduced just because of the technology advancement. So I think gradually Cisco needs to think about reducing the price as well.
