Overall Satisfaction with Cisco Meraki MR

We use the Cisco Meraki MR access points for wireless connectivity for both corporate and guest SSID wireless networks. For the corporate SSID, the access points tunnel the traffic to a Cisco Meraki MX 100, which acts as the Wifi concentrator to allow for access point roaming. For the Guest SSID, we have access rules on the APs, which only allows outbound web traffic, so that they cannot communicate with other devices on the wireless network or on the local LAN. The setup is simple and easy within the Meraki dashboard.
  • Great reachability within the buildings.
  • They can now integrate with Cisco Umbrella
  • Mutiple SSIDs can be setup, with different authentication options.
  • You can gather analytics from the devices to see what kind of traffic is traversing the access points.
  • It would be nice for the devices to be able to accurately place itself on a heat map, instead of having to manually upload floor plans and manually placing the devices on the correct map location.
  • The hardware to mount the devices could be done a bit better.
  • Since they are easy to setup, you save a lot on manpower hours.
  • First you configure an SSID in the Meraki Dashboard and associate it to a tag name(s). Then, when you add a new access point to the network, you just have to associate the tags to it and it will start working. Super easy and time saving when provisioning new access points in the network.
  • Since the access points report back to the Merak Dashboard, you can easily rule out any network connectivity issues when they are successfully reporting back, which also saves troubleshooting time.
  • You can also save time by looking at the Meraki mobile App, which also gives you availability and statistical information.
We have saved countless hours in administrative tasks, such as deploying new access points by just associating them to the appropriate tag names. We have also benefited by being able to rule out potential network issues by checking the Meraki Dashboard or Meraki mobile app. Also using the Meraki Dashboard has been self-explanatory and easy to us, which has saved lots of time.
We have been able to integrate the Cisco Meraki MX by tunneling traffic from the access points to the MX 100s in order to use them as the Wifi concentrator in order to be able to allow access point roaming when someone is moving around the building. The MX 100s are also easy to configure via the Meraki Dashboard and integrate with the associated SSIDs that are being used by the access points. Also, the Meraki Dashboard provided analytics for the Cisco Meraki MX, so that you can the type of traffic that is going through them.
The are highly scalable, because of how easy they can integrate with Cisco Meraki MR access points. They can also be deployed as firewalls at many locations and are easy to setup withing the Meraki Dashboard. The Cisco Meraki MXs can also be setup to use SDWAN in order to build the associations between multiple sites and allows for a full mesh configuration with one easy click in the Cisco Meraki Dashboard.
The Cradlepoints can also serve as wireless access point devices, but can have phone provider SIM cards added to them for internet connectivity, which is good as a backup route or for mobile vehicles. However, for office locations we use the Meraki access points, because of how simple and reliable they are.

Also, if you need a wireless solution that is easy to setup and monitor, then the Meraki Dashboard is a great tool for these access points.
