Overall Satisfaction with Cisco Meraki MV
We use it along with the Meraki button at our front entrance to identify visitors. We have used both the activity zone as well as the button to trigger a recording. When a visitor presses the button, the camera will send a snapshot to email and text so we know a visitor is waiting in the lobby.
Pros
- Motion detection with activity zones works well
- Motion snapshots are stitched together into one image which is amazing
- Works well with other sensors including the button and door sensor
Cons
- More granular user controls would be nice for Meraki in general
- It saves us lots of time by monitoring our lobby for visitors
- The camera is obvious so it acks as a deterrent to prevent security incidents
- Firmware updates are easy which saves time
It was very easy to set up and install with one POE ethernet cable. No additional power is needed. It was also easy to add to the dashboard and easy to configure. Onsite storage is not necessary so really you just need to install the camera and you're basically done hardware wise. Firmware upgrades are a breeze which is important as you wouln't want camera's with unpatched vulnrabilities. You can set up Azure AD authentication so others in HR or building security can easily log in to review footage.
The meraki products are easy to manage from one dashboard. The devices all work well together, for example the MS button or door sensor can trigger the camera. The MS Sensors can connect to the camera instead of wifi which is nice if the camera is hardwired and there is not a good wifi signal nearby for the varios Meraki MS Sensors.
I've used their camera's and wouldn't recommend them for a business unless you have a lot more time to mess around with configuration and issues. They might be ok for home use but didn't compare to Meraki for our lobby need.

Using Cisco Meraki MV
5 - Meraki MV cameras are used for physical security, specifically in the lobby area but we plan to add more. It along with the Meraki button alerts us of visitors waiting in the lobby.
1 - Once set up, they're super easy to manage. We also have SSO set up for users that need to view the footage online.
- Physical Security
- IT equipment security
- Safety
- The Meraki button can trigger the MV camera to email and text a snapshot.
- We plan to add one to the parking lot and shipping door.
- We will add some to the IT rooms for compliance.
Evaluating Cisco Meraki MV and Competitors
Yes - It replaced an older UniFi Camera which required onsite hardware and storage. We had to install the console on a server, and it wasn't as user friendly.
- Cloud Solutions
- Scalability
- Integration with Other Systems
SSO integration with Enra ID works well. We're also looking at door Access control integration which is an option.
We already had Meraki AP and Switch so it was a no brainer. Might consider somethign similar depending on pricing and integration.

No, have not needed much support.
Yes - I only reported it on the community and it resolved it self after a while which was good. I didn't end up opening a ticket.
Not with this product but they did alert us of an issue with their water leak sensors when they first came out and said they would send new cables once manufacturing caught up. They followed through on that without me having to do a think.
