Overall Satisfaction with Cisco Routers

We use the Cisco Routers to separate traffic and route VLANs from our branches back to our main site. The Cisco Routers are very good at dividing out traffic and maintaining the QoS needed to supply fast data for when members are visiting one of the branches. They also maintain a connection to the file server for access to important data.
  • Route VLANs
  • Maintain traffic separation
  • Provide tremendous uptime
  • It does require advanced knowledge to manage
  • Entry bar is high
  • The tech is complex

  • Uptime has been fantastic.
  • Very little maintenance outside of our initial professional-driven set up.
  • Reliable.
We do integrate our Cisco Routers with additional Cisco switch stacks as well as other third-party hardware such as other switches, firewalls, servers, UPS units, environmental sensors and a phone system. The Cisco Routers have "played well" with all the other equipment, from a myriad of different manufacturers. We are happy with the integration abilities. We went with Cisco on the recommendation of a trusted partner and haven't been disappointed.
We use the basic features of the Cisco Routers such as advanced logins and MFA. The devices are fairly secure by nature. We do not leverage additional features on the Cisco Routers themselves, as we have firewalls and third-party devices that secure the perimeter as well as internal security. However, we do trust that our routers are secure by the nature of Cisco products.
I mentioned it earlier, but let me expand-- the Cisco Routers have the highest uptime and resiliency of any of our hardware devices. We check them with our vendor (Cisco-certified experts) twice a year to determine if any firmware or other upgrades are needed. We also have a yearly review to check on EoL and other issues that might arise. Of course, out-of-band or emergency patches are brought to our attention immediately, but that has been extremely rare. We replaced previous routers from a brand that rhymes with "swell."
Cisco Routers are suited towards higher-end and more complex configuration scenarios. Small businesses would likely not want the cost or burden of having a dedicated Cisco-certified engineer to maintain them. However, we have found they are reliable and sturdy. The interface can be complex to an outsider, but we also request that our routers perform complex tasks.

Using Cisco Routers

Everyone in the organization uses the Cisco Routers, whether they know it or not. From branch managers to MSRs, Compliance to Finance and Loans and everyone in between. With their great resilience and uptime, Cisco Routers keep an organization that cannot afford to be down, up and running. We also trust their security to keep personal information safe.
We actually partner with a trusted vendor who maintains our Cisco Routers. We have no one in house that is Cisco certified, but our partner has about 5 people on staff with a combined total of 80 years of Cisco experience and the certifications to back it up. We rely on them.
  • Traffic shaping
  • Fantastic uptime
  • VLAN forwarding during an internet outage
  • Traffic shaping
  • VLAN routing
  • Secure data transport
We are extremely likely to renew, as we have been very happy with our Cisco Routers for over 10 years. Their uptime as well as stable nature makes them ideal for us, as we are an industry that cannot afford downtime. We trust our partner to recommend our next model Cisco, when the time comes.
