Overall Satisfaction with Cloudflare

Cloudflare enables our own, and client infrastructure to be protected from web threats. We utilise the services of Cloudflare as the first step in our multi-tiered security approach. Generally, we are looking to mitigate as many threats as possible prior to traffic hitting servers or edge devices we manage. We utilise Cloudflare for additional services too such as automated load balancing across connections which removes the manual intervention often associated with external facing solutions.
  • Blocks external website exploits.
  • Provides reliable load balancing.
  • Really low ttl support in dns.
  • Fast website and easy to use console.
  • Perhaps more out of the box automated setup of WAF rules based on templates.
  • Easier to understand interface for more junior staff.
  • Staff cost is reduced as manual intervention is no longer required.
  • Clients are a lot happier as a for example a 30-minute line outage would be virtually invisible to the client other than a brief disconnect.
DNS made easy We utilised this service for a while but we just found it lacked the additional features and combined solutions that Cloudflare offers. Cloudflare is also backed with much more extensive and reliable infrastructure.
The time to get the first client onboard cloudflare was less than 1 hour. We have then since built upon this experience and developed solutions we can repeat elsewhere with added features as required. The swap to using cloudflare load balancing removed a major risk of downtime overnight. Luckily these issues dont occur often but its better to prepare for the scenario and add peace of mind.
We haven't had to use their support but on the rare occasion there has been an issue affecting their services, we have actively monitored the status. Traffic is usually very quickly re-routed and resolutions are put in place in very fast times.

The product is fantastic when sitting in front of an on-prem server where you wish to provide an extra layer of security. It also reduces the risk of DDoS as the backend server details such as IP address are not required to be exposed to the client accessing the resource. The use for things such as automated A record failover for internet connections makes low-cost resiliency very achievable for all companies. This also removes the reliance on a single isp or over-the-top sdwan solution to achieve the same result.
