Overall Satisfaction with Deputy
We use Deputy as our primary timeclock and employee messaging platform. Before switching to Deputy we used an outdated dedicated timeclock which connected to desktop software. The hardware was proprietary so when it stopped working we had no backup solution. The software was also buggy and required constant backups, syncs, and maintenance to keep running.
Pros
- Ability to install on any Android or newer iPad and use as a dedicated timeclock kiosk. If the devices go down, you can allow employees to clock in on their own phone or use a web time clock.
- Lots of flexibility to ensure shifts are compliant with your desired labor policies (e.g., 40 + overtime, salaried, etc.).
Cons
- News Feed is super valuable but has so much room for improvement. Unable to @ tag specific employees, search is terrible, comment replies are character limited, cannot add media to replies, etc. Would love to rip out the news feed and replace with a slack like experience.
- Tasks show so much promise but feel half baked. There is enough there to get you excited but not enough to fully replace your standard operating procedures.
- Reports are severely limited on the timeclock only plan. When there are plenty of free competitor options available, it's a poor value to restrict so much functionality to paying customers.
- Have been using for two years and haven't seen any material upgrades that get me excited about continuing to use and pay for Deputy.
- Payroll accuracy has definitely improved.
- Ability to easily export data and analyze timesheets is a big bonus.
