Overall Satisfaction with Dropbox

We use Dropbox on our everyday work as a virtual/digital server for remote studio work. We work as a remote/home-office studio since 2018 and since then we always use a cloud service as main method to exchange files with users and external clients, Dropbox is a good solution for this due to the efficient files management that it has.
  • File Syncing
  • Notification center
  • Sharing files and folder with good permission options
  • Change the name of the root folder, the "()" can cause problems sometimes with some tools trying to find paths inside of the root folder.
  • The upload queue becomes slow trying to upload files that have more than ~500mb of file size, even if I have 1 Gbit of speed, Dropbox gets stuck uploading single files with that rule.
  • Sometimes we can't move a shared folder from root location.
  • LAN sync seems not to be working in my experience.
  • A negative impact was the change on the business plans where now Dropbox doesn't offer "unlimited" space, forcing us to buy a lot of physical hard drivers to move part of the storage outside of Dropbox.
  • A positive is that we are always "online", if one of our machines is damaged, everything is online in Dropbox
  • In the beginning, we were saving money on hard drives thanks to Dropbox but as I mentioned in the first point, this is no longer the case
Suddenly Google Drive increased its prices on a similar range to Dropbox.

Google Drive has some inconvenient limitations for the kind of usage that we expect from a cloud service, for example, it allows only a per day sync limit of 750K of files, and sometimes we need to sync more files in one day

Do you think Dropbox delivers good value for the price?

Not sure

Are you happy with Dropbox's feature set?

Yes

Did Dropbox live up to sales and marketing promises?

Yes

Did implementation of Dropbox go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy Dropbox again?

Yes

Well suited:

For syncing a lot of small files, like image sequences or 3D cache files from DCC programs, also for "real-time" virtual shared drive with others colleagues.

Less appropriate:

For syncing a lot of individual files with a lot size, around over than 500 MBs, for example AI models.
