Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Druva Phoenix to backup our entire VMWare environment, NAS, some physical servers and SQL DBs.

Pros and Cons

VMware backups - no client needed, just needs to be able to take a snapshot
NAS backups, ease of configuring files/folder to exclude.
Full system restores take just seconds to set up

Cloud cache is not the easiest to set up
Does not dedup SQL data very well
Random failures when Druva is doing maintenance

Return on Investment

We had miscalculations one the amount of storage we would use. Additional storage can get expensive.
We have had to restore files and entire systems with 0 issues.
Easy to set up and learn. Very little training needed unlike other products.

Usability

By far the best backup product I have used. Not having tapes etc., to rely on means we can restore what we want, anytime, and to any location.

Support Rating

Druva support is always fast to respond and 90% of the time can resolve the issue in one call.

Alternatives Considered

Unitrends Recovery Series Backup Appliance and Veritas NetBackup

Druva is 100 times easier to set up and maintain. Once deployed, it just works. I am usually surprised to see any failure with Druva, unlike the other products we used or looked in to.
