Overall Satisfaction with Litmus

We use Litmus to QA emails and provide supportive analytics to clients. Since we are an agency, we'll QA emails to see how emails are rendering for different email clients, find out which email clients are most popular in their database, and other data that can help with support with telling the story about what's happening with a program.
  • Emulation of 100s of email clients by pasting HTML email code into their builder
  • The UI for navigating the build tools, analytics, and other functions are intuitive and easy to learn.
  • They have amazing weekly newsletters that go deep into email trends, benchmarks, and very practical tips. They are well-written.
  • Litmus analytics is great, but measures a different from Google Analytics or in-platform measurements. This makes it hard to trust various data sources.
  • Eloqua integration for analytics is not as good as the platforms - still easy to use though, but it's not as robust as other platforms using out-of-the-box metrics
  • It would be great to add time spent on email in bigger increments for long form emails
  • Saves time in finding out emails aren't rendering for a certain contacts. Sometimes people bring it up to the person managing the company's reply email, but the emails already sent out.
  • Hard to calculate attribution to ROI, but thee tool isn't expensive. It is worth taking the extra few minutes to test your emails before sending that you can't do with just a test email.
  • Instead of emailing 10 different test email clients, you can do it on one platform which saves you the tedious and time-consuming task of testing in each client.
I've connected Litmus to Eloqua, but did not actively use it to port email builds. Because we used templates that already exist in the marketing automation platform, we didn't need to use the integration.
Litmus helped us determine how long contacts were spending on our emails. We were creating nurture emails that were 1000-1500 words long. There were hardly any clicks since the email is long, so the company did not have a good way to determine how long people were spending on them despite opens being good. Using the performance metrics on Litmus, which provide Time on Email, we were able to see that people were spending at least 8 seconds on the email - which implies they are reading the email. It showed us our audience was okay with long form emails.
We have not used this function on the accounts I've been on. We work with multiple partner agencies and with 11 different markets with their own processes, so this is not something we use.

Would you buy Litmus again?

Yes

Litmus is great for QAing emails and their emulators are invaluable. I don't know of any email marketing platforms that do this, so having Litmus in your marketing stack is a must. It's the closest thing to seeing how your subscribers see your email. Aside from this, their email builder is pretty good. I'm not a professional coder, but know enough to customize emails, so there very well could be better editors. Their analytics tools are easy to use, but has been hard to validate by cross-referencing other data sources. It is not an email automation tool in itself, so it is not a substitute for an email platforms like MailChimp, Hubspot, Marketo, etc. It's more like a platform's partner.
