Use Cases and Deployment Scope

It's used to connect on prem with cloud. Additionally hosting email. Authentication for network/domain, email, microsoft apps. The problems it addresses include not having to host our own exchange server. Additionally it's always on, always available. The maintenance aspect and is huge for us as it doesn't cause downtime when applying updates.

Deployment

We have a hybrid environment. We're on prem with AD but do a sync to the cloud for email/apps.
Pretty straight forward, accounts get updated on prem, sync to Azure updates the accounts.

No major changes other than grumblings when introducing MFA.

I think it's well suited in an environment that wants to get rid of any on prem servers. Specifically companies that have it in their budget. Some companies might not be able to accomodate their staff because of the price. In my opinion, migration from on prem to cloud needs to be cleaner. And when there are errors, the errors should be more clear in why. In my experience, relying on Microsoft support will hinder your progress.
